You can pick up amps and speakers fairly cheaply these days, amps and AV Receivers are updated so often there are usually bargains to be found.
So true. Well, my amp it's ok enough. Old, nothing fancy, but ok. But my speakers are complete crap, wich makes my amp useless. So yep, I guess I'll start with some decent speakers.
Sounds like a plan! I opted for a complete set of Wharfedales, floor standers and diffuse speakers for the walls - plus two subs. I've always loved Wharfedale, the Diamond 9 range is now incredibly cheap - roughly £50 a pair at Richer Sounds, better than half price. They are highly recommended but it's all down to personal choise.
Well, I'm not an audiophile, so a good pair of decent speakers will do the job. And I've never thought of buying anything extra (subs, etc..) so yep, a couple of speakers sounds like a (modest) plan.

I still use a pair of Wharfedale speakers that my grandad bought in the '70's, still sound good to my ears. Richer Sounds have some great deals, I used to buy loads of quality gear from there back in my student days, was always hunting through the 'b-grade' stock for a bargain.

They still have those sales, had an email yesterday with "open box" offers.
