How annoying is it that for the next 21 days SoaLW will be sitting on a server and in warehouses somewhere inaccessible to us all? Just sitting there unplayed, untouched and untouchable…
Just think about that for a while.

If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!

Seems the folks at the Irish Times have touched it

I will never understand critics who give 4 stars out of 5 reviews while not giving ANY reason for the score, as what they write clearly suggests a 5. (That's what Arctic Monkeys sang about, eh?)
Also, I don't think the reviewer really got what's AFT about?

I'm not gonna read that review, because a) it's probably garbage, and b) I'll make my own mind up thank you very much Mr/s Reviewer....
I would suggest that said critics fall into the following categories:
1) failed musicians who are now bitter so "nothing's any good, anymore",
2) fans of a very broad range of musical styles, probably or possibly favouring one style over another as most of us do, but still, they have a broad palette from which they listen, so anything that's band or genre specific that is good (good being a relative term, ask a fan of The Spice Girls then ask me), does not seem good to them,
3) conversely to point two, fans of a very narrow range of musical styles, so anything outside of that is naff to them'
And back to the age old question, who they hell are they to judge music anyway? Whomever these critics are, they are just people like each of us with opinions and likes and dislikes, and just because they or someone brands them "a critic" that's supposed to mean their opinions are valid? To me? Pfffttt... as if.. Listening to another person's opinion about something you have a feeling towards is pointless. I've seen plenty of movies which were "no good" which I enjoyed immensely.
My opinion (ha ha): ignore that review, and experience the album in its full length to make up your own mind (I'm sure you were going to do that anyway).
I wonder how that critic rated the other The Cure albums?

Okay, let me know at a later time your opinion ,i mean let us know
:-)
Ok, just listened to it. I like it. Better than Maybe Someday, to answer your question, Figie.
I confirm what I said a few days ago: AFT is the best "pop song" they have done in the post-Wish era. And finally a nice 6 string bass solo, after 2 albums with none of that!
So it's thumbs up for me.
Only remark: the lyrics are a bit meh, but I knew that already.
Okay
So it is 3 for 3 at the moment for you
Pretty sure you will like it in summary.
(you did like it even before it got announced but that's another thread)
And you will place it higher than Bloodflowers album.

Jesus, man… just don’t read it. People work in a huge variety of things. Critics are just one more. They don’t judge, they give an opinion. And of course, opinions from others —critics or not— matters and may be interesting and useful (to me anyway). Unless you want to live isolated in a world where the only thing it matters is your own opinions and tastes. But I find that terribly poor and boring.

Why? Do your tastes and opinions align with critics’ opinions generally?
That is curios, but each to their own…

Sometimes yes, sometimes not. Most of the times I don’t even read critics. Not anymore, specially in music. I read some film, book and comics critics from time to time. if I want to have a hint of a work that appeals to my eye, for example. It is not a matter of align or not, it is a matter of listen to other people. And of course, I have learn a lot from other people’s opinions, critics or not. It is not me against them. I learn a lot from people from this forum, for example. And yes, I have learned a lot from critics in the past, and they have discovered me new stuff to watch and listen from their writings. To feel that if it is a critic I can’t get nothing from it because they are some kind of “evil useless judges” is a strange way of seen it from my perspective.
