Really don't understand what all the fuss is about re SG's comments Just be thankful they didn't have access to social media in the 80's when RS was relentlessly slagging off Morrissey, Duran Duran, U2 etc
They announced the album, a few times, and have toured it/them fairly regularly since.
Er....no they didn't announce a new album. They teased the fact that an album was in the works, but it's never been "announced". Then they rolled out a hand full of songs reportedly from the new album on the tour(s)
Can I offer you a The Cure NFT? 😂
If one googles 'the Cure announce new album' the links go back to 2014. This is the 3rd (or is that 4th) new album announced and unreleased according to a quick scan of the headlines.
Some of them report that a new album was finished. What ever happened to it? They toured on that announcement though.
TC are relying on the good will of their fans but not doing much to earn it.
Have you noticed how there were NO live streams for the North American stadium tour, only the Lat Am? The richer country, with massive technical capability and Interstates, was expected to pay to see TC. They made bank there.
They took the money from the tour, sold you the t-shirt, and went home.
And they've been doing it for years...
It would be so perfect If you would just fall out the window
The Live-Streams in LATAM were due to the shows being part of a festival and not stand alone concerts right? They probably had to agree to be part of those festival. Europe and North America were all stand alone shows, it is really not common to have official live streams on those concerts. Only exception would be Riot Fest in Chicago. Did this festival provide live streams and The Cure were not broadcastet? Cannot remember.

Regardless of semantics, the expectation of it has been out there for years, and I do feel that expectation was quite deliberately set by one person. Ahem.

Headlines and articles are entirely different & there is no shortage of clickbait on the interwebs. I know for a fact that work on SOANW started only in 2019 & since (among other things already spoken about) then there have been hints, half promises, confessions of inability to come up with lyrics, names banded about & rumoured release times (nobody has specified a date of any sort). Many of the hacks that pass themselves off as music journalists when, in fact, they are bloggers have been spinning these comments as announcements. I think the closest we got was Robert's interview at the NME thing in 2022 where he said, “I know what it’s called – it’s called Songs Of a Lost World,” Smith revealed. “It’s got artwork, it’s got a running order, it’s almost done! They’re so slow because of vinyl, but it might come out as early as September, probably. I’d rather it just came out. I can’t stand the anticipation.” I agree with you kirstie, the seed of expectation has been sowed well & truly & perhaps cruelly, & I'd be delirious to actually see an announcement on the level of the numerous rip off store day announcements & re-issue announcements. Until now, there hasn't been anything firm as far as I can tell.
Well as I had already written, we had this random official confirmation on the official Twitter Account:
“REMEMBER ME TONIGHT” PART OF THE LYRIC TO ‘AND NOTHING IS FOREVER' THE SECOND SONG OF THE UPCOMING 'SONGS OF A LOST WORLD' ALBUM.
I agree this is not THE official Main announcement we are waiting for (with a release date and a picture of the Artwork of the album) but nevertheless it is kind of official.
I also remember the german concerts of the Euro-Tour 2022 had been promoted by mentioning a new studio album of 67-Minutes runtime on the official site of the promoter. And the promoter is a longlife friend and business partner of the band. But sure, this was kind of semi-official.

Yes, I had thought about that recent track #2 nugget, too. That, and the runtime would seem like reassurances, but at this point, I can't be bothered to keep score anymore. Whatever happens, happens, and there's nothing to be done about it!
