a thread to ponder the big questions of the day. i'll start with 1 that has been gnawing at me for awhile. what's up with the resurgence of cassettes? a horrible format. the sound quality is lousy, they are easily destroyed by accident & they disintegrate after a relatively short amount of time. why are people buying these pieces of trash? i can see why vinyl is popular again even if it is far too expensive & there are plenty of ripoffs going on vis a vis mastering. what's next, 8 track tapes? egads!
I’m making a carrot cake for lunch with my parents today, and it’s amazing how a cake with two ingredients I do not care for, carrots and raisins, can somehow be one of my favorite cakes? You could not pay me to eat raisins or carrots on their own (saccharin mush and crunchy dirt), but a spicy slice of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting? Yes, please! What is up with that?

8 tracks and Cassettes were horrible. I would never buy either of them again. Vinyl I can see because of sound quality but not the other two. Blah.

Digital TV broadcasts. Yay on the picture quality (mostly) but utter rubbish mushed up audio stream. You'd think with the billions these people rake in they'd have enough bandwidth to stream lossless audio.

people don't care about audio quality for the most part. they're all half deaf from the constant ear buds & headphones. & sittingstanding too close to the PA at the Ramones concert in 1977 but i digress....

Fair point, but not sure that's all true. Pre HD, people got duped by DVDs that almost always had cruddy mpeg audio. Many even went & got a home entertainment setup to get the most out of the movies they watched. Now people have HD displays these days & a cable or satellite service that pipes multi channel digital audio. Then (as large flat tellies tend to have the crappiest speakers ever made in them) they'll add either a sound bar or plumb the display into their existing home entertainment setup. Fair enough for blu rays or UHD blu rays, but for broadcast TV you just get fobbed off with low bitrate mpeg audio that is billed as "crystal clear, high quality audio". It's nothing of the sort.

Just remember that raisins are grapes that didn’t made it to be wine - so be gentle...
Ha! But, nope. Ever had candied carrots? No thank you. Raisins in other sweet items? Naw. Carrot cake exists in the Bermuda Triangle of desserts for me
putting concert tickets on sale almost an entire a year before the show. the foo fighters are going to play the baseball stadium in seattle on september 1. tickets are going on sale monday. i kind of like them but not on a deep level. just fun stuff. most likely tickets aren't going to be cheap for decent seats. i'm sorry but i refuse to let evil concert promoters hang on to my money for that long with nothing to show for it. + it is xmas present buying time. much rather take care of the kids i like than buy tickets for the show now. besides, i could be dead or otherwise incapacitated at that point. i may end up going but its not a big enough priority to drop at least a couple hundred dollars on it right now.

But when you buy stuff in advance, it almost seems like it’s free, when time comes. Hehe (It’s the same, when You buy stuff at the internet, and the delivery time is long - then it’s almost like getting presents)

10 months is excessive on concert tickets though. The promoters are making interest on that money. Draining every last penny out of the situation. Think the really bad part is doing it when people are dealing with Christmas. Like a lot of the festivals also pick this time of year to put expensive tickets on sale. Wouldn't kill them to wait a few months.
