Hello,
I'd be interested to know what is the best recorded bootleg that you have in your collection. It will be a soundboard version (there are several) for sure but which one ? I am only interested (here) in sound quality, not in tracklist.
For me it Glastonburry 95 "Dressing up for a day out" i guess...
Cheers, Edouard

Out of interest, why would it be a soundboard? There are loads of audience recordings that are better than any soundboard.
& some matrix recordings that are absolutely stellar. i just listened to 1 of neil young from 2002 (sorry steve) that was recorded that way for Rock Am Platz & is awesome. the best concert tape i have is wilco recorded in seattle last september that was done by the band but it sounds like a matrix to me. i'll have to think on cure tapes. metalurg's tape of the stockholm show last year springs to mind immediately. absolutely stunning.

I hear this a lot and have yet to encounter too many AUDs that sound as good as SBDs. To be sure, unmixed soundboards can be dodgy, but there's a good AUD capture and then there's "live album quality" and I think that's what the OP is talking about.

Curious you say that & then list Plainsongs: Prayer Tour SBDs which have to be (IMHO) the worst sbd recordings I have ever heard. One issue with sbds is you lose a massive part of the life from a live recording. That being the audience. The Prayer Tour boot is a classic example of what I'd probably describe as a "dead" live recording.
If you're going the Trilogy DVD Rip route, only the PCM audio track, as the DD one is a lossy mush. I'd go the full monty to be honest & take the full HD audio off the Blu Ray.

I like the Prayer Tour boards because even though the aud is missing, I have SOOOOO much audience capture from that tour, it's nice to hear the instruments on their own. It doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Same with the Trilogy rip. I don't know the providence of my copy. I think it came from the Pirate Bay maybe?? It's lossy, sure but it still sounds better than just about anything circulating. I put it on for comparison's sake and I am just letting it play... it's amazing.

Not even the fact half of it's not even in tune? Okay. To each their own
I had Trilogy on last night - of the 3 albums, Disintegration takes ages to get going. Pictures and Closedown in particular are really tentative performances. It gets better as it goes on but its a slow start. Never noticed before but it might be the only performance I can remember where Robert and Simon arent playing to each other at the start of Pictures.

heh heh... i kinda like the flubs. so much of the cure live is spot on that it's nice to be reminded that they're actually human too sometimes. The guitar solo in ANLT is especially botched

Some ones which come to mind in my collection are:
• The version of the 1980 Herford, Germany show mislabeled as Brussels 1980 (it's called Super Golden Radio or something like that) • Ontario Theatre in Washington DC 1984 AKA Cold • Leysin, Switzerland 1990
I like the Kilburn one a couple people have mentioned too, but it's a bit lacking in midrange.
A couple that aren't SBDs: Las Vegas 2000 (ED version). Best Dream Tour audience recording I think I ever heard. Vancouver 1996 (SR version). Makes the FM one sound like it's played down a phone.
