So it’s a quick jaunt East as the band arrives in Barcelona for the last show on the “mainland”.
Given the name “Colonia Faventia Julia Augusta Pia Barcino” in 15BC by the Romans, tourists started to get frustrated that it was difficult to fit on postcards & envelopes & so the name was shortened to avoid huge costs in production of bigger stationery supplies.
The capital of Catalonia has a few claims to fame really. There’s a bonkers 130 year old church that is still not finished, some equally bonkers houses dotted around the city & the largest footy stadium in Europe
But one man has done more for the Barcelona name than anyone else in history. Fleeing his hometown in the mid 70’s to pursue a career in service in a small hotel in Torquay, this adorable, guitar playing, pedigree Siberian Hamster* enthusiast truly made Barcelona one of the most famous cities in Europe. Manuel we salute you. Not even Freddie & that chick with the sparkly nightie could top that.
Sauntering down La Rambla today are figurehead82 , Mav787 , olivier , jeopardy , gongoro73 , andy , fangler , ohfuchsia , gothmaz & dannistargirl , stopping to stuff themselves with a suquet de peix & a few cold San Miguels before heading to the venue for what we hope is a fantastic evening
As for us, let’s zoom in on the NE coast of Spain & scope out the scopes & prepare a pitcher of sangria & go to the show
