Read the lyrics from the point of view of it being (about) rape.
Ouch - I had never thought of that nausearockpig! You're so spot on with that analogy...my God that is so horrible...Yet again some incredible writing of some darkly evil stuff.

Yeah, I mean it may not be of course, we really will never know but it's such a departure in sound and style for The Cure. That bass intro is harsh and the excellent wah wah work is so hypnotic and presiding (over the top is the wrong phrase) that it sort of grabs your attention and makes you focus on it. I can't find the right words to describe the wah guitar but it sort of carries you, like it is in control, not you..... I know that it's just a song and that review is a bit much but you know what I mean...
Great song, and the fact that it's followed by Catch is intentional I think, to catch us off guard...
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!
Interesting idea, nausearockpig. Definitely works. I think of the song as being about being sick of the need for physical contact, the real addiction to it, and dealing with a partner you love and hate at the same time. And this torrent followed by the sweet Catch is fantastic, as you say above. The whole long album is full of highs and lows.

Yeah the album is tracked very interestingly.
I like to listen to it with the b-sides thrown in after each single ( I do this a lot with The Cure albums )
The Kiss Catch Breathe A Chain of Flowers Torture If Only Tonight We Could Sleep Why Can't I Be You? A Japanese Dream How Beautiful You Are The Snakepit Hey You!!! Just Like Heaven Snow In Summer Sugar Girl All I Want Hot Hot Hot!!! One More Time Like Cockatoos Icing Sugar The Perfect Girl A Thousand Hours Shiver and Shake Fight

I like this. I'm gonna put it in this order and give it a shot.
antemasque let me know what you thought of it... and if you do the same with other albums and their b-sides..
I'll do it over the weekend since I've been working so much. Sunday is my only day off so ill let you know then. This is in my top 3 for the cure albums so im excited to hear this mix of songs.
Is there a thread which lists all b sides for each album? If not, there should be. Lol.
The cure is a band I've loved since I was 16. I'm 28 now.
I haven't had the chance to listen to everything unfortunately nor know which songs were recorded during which session so if there's not a b side thread I would love to help contribute any knowledge. I'm sure there's people here who know A TON more then me. Help please? Haha.
I love making my own playlist for albums that include b sides. the cure seems to have so many that it would make it fun. even if it takes one hundred years.

You'll see the b-sides from 1978 to 2004 and where they fit. If you have the cassette version of Standing On A Beach, all the b-sides are on side B and there should be info on the slick (from memory..... mine is packed away in a box in an offsite storage location )
Happy to chat about the b-sides any time.. love them!
