I saw the Pet Sounds tour about a month ago, Brian was fine at the start if the night, drifted off a bit in the middle and then surprised everyone by playing a solo number at the piano as an encore. His band us tight though and Al Jardine is still cool, not so sure about Blondie Chaplin's rocking out!
Blondie was...interesting. I wasn't a big fan of how he always grabbed the female keyboardist's leg whenever he took a tour of the stage.
I didn't notice that! He was kept off-stage for the majority of the show.
Brian definitely didn't seem as with it as he was during the re-united Beach Boys tour back in 2012, they were crazy long sets and he was involved way more than he was for the Pet Sounds show we saw. Also, he played Summer's Gone which is a modern classic
Glad you got to see Brian sang. Pet sounds is such a seminal work. I've had wildly varying experiences seeing Brian. The first time, in the late 1970's when I was in high school, with the Beach Boys. The real Beach Boys with all the Wilson Bros. still alive & kicking. Brian was not in good shape at all. They kind of propped him up in what looked like a bathrobe behind some keyboards. The participation was sporadic at best. The 2nd time was the "Smile" tour. That show was fantastic. Brian was in good shape & had a wonderful band. The Wondermints plus many other musicians. I don't know if this is still the case but there is 1 guitar player who is never far from Brian. When the vocals falter, he steps right in unobtrusively. The last time was few years ago with Jeff Beck. I scored a front row ticket for the show in Vegas. I literally sat 10 feet away from Brian & was able to really watch him. Clearly some of the demons have come back. I imagine that its a constant battle. He still performed pretty well but seemed like he was somewhere else in his head. That show had Al Jardine & another original Beach Boy (name eluding me) & Blondie Chaplin on a few songs. Brian & Al also came out with Jeff Beck. Beck commented on Brian's mental state after the tour out of concern for him. Consequently, the music that Jeff did in the studio with Brian has never seen the light of day. I remember 1 of Brian's daughters going off on Jeff at the time. It's too bad, as Jeff wasn't disparaging him in the least. sang, I'm glad this is what you saw. When you first posted, I was afraid you were getting dragged to the latest Mike Love travesty. Even if it wasn't Brian at his best, you can say you saw him. Truly a mad genius. I'm skipping this show in Seattle. I'm sure I'd enjoy it somewhat but I've seen him pretty recently & it was pretty expensive. Lots of other stuff going on lately! Speaking of expensive, Ringo Starr is playing our local Native American entertainment complex in a pretty small room. Just for kicks, I checked how much it cost (sold out right away). $325!!!! I like Ringo but not $325 worth, haha.
Yeah, no way to Mike Love chuckrh! Think this is really the end of touring for Brian Wilson, or if it's not, I really hope to god no one is pushing him into it. I should've seen that Smile tour...my favorite Beach Boys song is actually Vega-tables
I saw Norah Jones a few nights ago. It was a very nice show. She's very engaging & versatile. Performed material from her whole career & played guitar as well as piano. Her band is very good. She even made a Grateful Dead song sound good. Excuse my psychosis about the Hateful Fred, haha. At the encore, she kind of lifted the hootenany concept from Wilco. Performed 3 songs acoustically with the band gathered around 1 mic. It was good. If left up to me, I probably wouldn't have gone to this show but I enjoyed it. Good date night material.
PJ Harvey last night. Very cool and played all the new album with the set filled out by mostly more recent material. Great 10 piece band (including 2 of Gallon Drunk & 1 Bad Seed), loads of drums/percussion and sax and not a click track in sight just naturally tight.

She doesn't play enough of her old stuff but her new stuff goes down so well that it really doesn't matter.

Glad you had a good time. I'm happy to see more people reviewing here. Like this one is helpful to me. I saw PJ a few times early in her career in small clubs & she was great. I haven't always been wild about the albums that came later, so if she came to town I would have qualms about going. If she comes to Seattle this tour, I would probably go based on this review.

must have been a really good show! was not sure about her new album as something to actually listen to when at home, so had only downloaded some songs. then saw her in cologne some weeks ago and liked her performance so much that on saturday i now got the cd as well. what a difference a concert makes
I've kept missing her this tour but glad I made it to one date, her current tour is a real performance piece. She really does have a unique sound on this tour - lots of delicate percussion but the sax gives it a real retro glam sound when she wants it. And her voice is still so clear and precise. I was a big fan of the album straight away but she recorded it over the river from where I worked at the time, I went to watch quite a few of the sessions which was pretty special.

I've also seen PJ earlier in October, the show was amazing. I too wish she'd play a bit more of her older stuff, though - so I'm very grateful she ended the setlist with Is this desire, it was wonderful.
The dream had to end
The wish never came true
And the girl starts to sing
It's not really a concert review but I went to the 30th anniversary of Aliens on Sunday - the normal film but accompanied by Royal Philharmonic Concert playing the score. The score is pretty spare for the most part but when it kicks in then it's pretty spectacular! Apparently they are going to tour it a bit during 2017.

Wow. Aliens is one of my favorite movies. I would love to see it screened like this! What a great idea for one of the best screenplays ever conceived. The music is a definite tension-builder and then ratchets up the desperate retreat to nerve-searing levels. But every aspect of the movie does that for me: the set design, sound effects, pitch-perfect characterization, plot development, visual effects and casting. I could go on and on.
I will keep my eyes open should the idea catch hold over here on "the continent."
My 2 favourite cues were when they first enter the compound before finding Newt - lots of percussion just creating echos by tapping bows on cellos and the final section between the Queens lair and Bishop picking them up on the landing platform. The whole ending was pretty full on
