On the thread of curespotting, does anyone out there want to take a wild guess at the average cost, a major network/studio or entitiy has to pay for including one cure song in their movie/tv show? Just guess> i double dog dare you
There is not one single price; it depends of which Cure song, how many seconds of the song will be used, maybe even which part, intro, chorus, instrumental only, then how big the movie is (a blockbuster or intimate low budget), if it contains plenty of songs or if The Cure song is only one of a few and the rest is original soundtrack, is it the opener or the end credit song, do the band know / like the film maker, will it appear on a cd soundtrack, and so on... I think I remember (but i may be wrong) they have already allowed a director to use one of their track for free (was it Sofia Coppola's?). I'd say between $50,000, $100,00 ... $250,000?
For months now I've been listening to the Polish rock radio station when only I'm able to while working. It's called Antyradio. Someone there has to be a real The Cure fan because the list of aired songs is pretty impressive. Everyday from 8am to 5pm there are two played and at least one later in the evening.
The list includes: Lovesong Lullaby Fascination Street Friday I'm In Love Close To Me Just Like Heaven Hot Hot Hot!!! Never Enough Why Can't I Be You A Forest Purple Haze Boys Don't Cry (acoustic version)
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.

I can't remember now if i replied to this, but the quote i got was $50,000 per song. No matter how long the length...
Something made me look more carefully at the TV and check what film was buzzing in some evening around V Day. It was He's Just Not That Into You (2009) packed with stars but unwatchable and that thing was surprisingly... Friday I'm in Love.
Isn't it sad a bit that Friday is the song used the most in movies from all The Cure songs?
