As the rest of Europe takes a bit of a winter break, the premier league hurtles into perhaps its busiest period of the year with four game weeks over the next fortnight, leaving our star players with barely a moment to wolf down their turkey & mince pies before lacing up their shiny pink boots for another match.
A glance back at GW16 & we once again saw a couple of upsets in a season that’s shaping up to be a welcome departure from the old one horse race affairs of recent years.
Spurs managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as the Toon Army notched up another rare 3 pointer.
Bournemouth managed to spoil LVG’s trip to the seaside in less than 2 minutes while City & Arsenal traded places at the top of the table despite having a zillion players injured between them (depending which paper you read).
Liverpool rescued a point at home which prompted Klopp & co. to perform some sort of bizarre victory ritual at the end of the game, as Palace dispatched the Saints to move back into European contention
Apart from Igloo freezing out the Black Cats, the rest of the weekend delivered a couple of bland draws….. until Monday.....
Tinkerman’s pizza munchers put Chelski to the sword which led to Jose calmly throwing his entire team under the bus in his post match interview & re-igniting the public handbagging between John Terry & Robbie Savage. Never a dull moment eh?
Meanwhile, in fantasy-land, after a crushing victory in GW15, the EIB managed to hold on to pip IGM with a 25 point advantage (IGM 682 - 707 EIB) that now leaves them trailing by just 31 points to IGM overall.
@mort ’s Nobby Nobbs XI tighten their grip on the Yellow Jersey , whilst eastmidswhizzkid ’s eastmidswhizzkids take a second consecutive Big Shout Out with 84 as they bid for a Vardy-esque record third this weekend.
In the H2H, EIB took the week by 3 points & build a lead of 22 in the table overall which means the crown remains in Bristol with @mort ’s Nobby Nobbs XI.
The newly re-enforced shed walls, door & roof held up very well to the resulting celebrations & we even enjoyed DJ emilystrange ’s The Darkness set which made BlueHughes feel right at home in his stripy spandex onesie/ catsuit ensemble
The Babycham flowed & nobody was sick (inside) & Tuesday morning was hastily crossed off everyone’s calendar as a hangover of biblical proportions took hold.
But the wheels keep rolling & so we head on into GW17, well just as soon as I load up the car to get to the bottle bank.
