Can a hamster be classed as suicidal?

I noticed Scoopy hadn't had any water for a couple of days, and then this morning realised why - he had bricked himself up!

He is in a cage where he can only get from level to level via tunnels - he had blocked every route to his water with bedding and sawdust...blocked solid, he couldn't get through - thank god I realised as I am guessing something so small can't survive long without water...

Unblocked the tunnels this morning and put him next to the water bottle - he drank like a fish, great sigh of relief from me... and then I come in tonight to find he's blocked the tunnels again!?

I am trying not to take it personally.
