Love it too! Read 'Chatterton' by Peter Akroyd recently, great fiction based on the myths surrounding the forger poet.
This is one of the most famous pre-raphaelite paintings. Always liked it but actually viewed it in London last year and it was just amazing - Stood for ages in front of it.

Orphelia - John Millais
Oo I've never read that...will have a look I love Ophelia too but it's too scary for my daughter to look at yet so I have this instead:
The Lady of Shalott - John William Waterhouse (probably my favourite artist)
Christina's World by Wyeth. I saw the original in MOMA in New York in 1994 and was entranced. Have a reproduction (of course!) in my room as the focal point, but it is framed in glass, so doesn't come out well in photos. You all know the painting, right?
Thanks, Laney, for poking around the forum for all these great threads.
This one is also on the top of my list, and I actually have the original. I saw it often in an antique/brik-a-brak store in Brussels on my many solo walks around the city. A Belgian artist named Jamar painted it in 1927, and I paid a pretty penny, but it is a great keepsake from my time there in 2004.
And Edward Hopper really does it for me, too, sans dark-haired women looking forlorn.
