Next question, how do I connect a 5.1 speaker system to a laptop?
If I get rid of my Dell tower, I would still want to keep the 5.1 speaker I use with them. But I'm guessing the new laptop would not have the same / right output.
I think you need a different sound card Paul. But let's see what everyone says. I have a great sound system on my desk top but I think lap tops are different.
I doubt the sound card in the lappy would be capable of more than 2.1, but if you have HDmi out you hook that into the input on the receiver as that will carry HD audio as well as video and then the receiver will separate the two streams and send the sound to the speakers and video to the screen.. Give me a call if you want to discuss...
Or, if you don't fancy trailing cables all over the place, if your PC & amp are DNLA compliant you should be able to connect wirelessly. If the PC is only stereo capable, you'll need to fiddle with the preset sound fields on the amp to simulate 5.1 sound
I've finally moved the new Harman Kardon speakers into my study with the new laptop and been playing with them. I love them! Not just the look and feel but the sound is great, considering I paid £80 for them. Bargain!
