I think the have sounded good nearly all the time but not around 2008
Welcome aboard camus. I enjoyed the 2008 stuff. It was interesting to hear arrangements without keyboards & I thought they did an amazing job with Plainsong & Prayers For Rain on that tour. The only think I found a bit much was Porl's incessant wah wah usage. It just got a bit tiring after a while. Now if you want a really bad year in terms of live performances.....1998. Utter shambles

I agree with you about the arrangements in 2008, but I can't stand Porl's guitar sound around this period... About the 1998 tour, I think a few concerts made its bad reputation but some others were really brilliant. It was so great to sea songs like Untitled, Sinking and a few others beeing played again...

I agree about 2008, I wasn't there, I heard some live of that period, and sincerely didn't like it... But I like 4:13 Dream... I don't like the homonympos album instead and WMS...
About the rest, I wish I was born before, and live them, live all their transformations, all their sounds. I could enjoy one of their concerts only the last year, in Rome, and follow them with you in the others recently, and I can say that I really love them today too, they are in great shape, live they are impeccable and I'm proud to be a fan of them

What's wrong about 1998? Everything was closer to the edge then...really thrilling (and sometimes frightening). Really cure-ish: US OR THEM in a fascinating way, and very often out-of-tune: but who cares? Who really cares! Just listen to UNTITLED in COLOGNE. And don't forget A FOREST in NIMES!!! 1998 was very unique. And this is what I love about THE CURE...
I think Cologne 1998 was the low point. Robert was quite the roll. UNTITLED was actually just because of a few lines of text WATCHING ME FALL a sort of highlight. Otherwise, this show was terrifying. I think 1998 was a pretty tough year for the band ... Luckily they have with BLOOD FLOWERS and associated tour again turned the corner
In my opinion, i can only judge for the periode 1996 until now, Dream Tour was the most 'balanced' tour, professional and almost flawless musicianship. Like the band in their current line up. If there's room for one remark, I would like to see Robert return to his original instruments as I always find a tiny thing is missing in his guitar sound..

YEAH, get rid of those SCHECTER guitars, smash them to pieces and get up and GO!

And maybe go back to a real amp too. C'mon Robert, you don't even have to carry them, play your old tube amps again, those Roland Cubes suck !!!

I think almost exactly the opposite
If it wasn't for Porl coming back and then 4.13 I probably wouldn't be listening to them now. I know its been said a million times but Boris and Porl leaving really hurt - I remember seeing them in 93 and then again in 95 and watching them go one at time and then hearing the difference without them was just so disappointing.
I am a massive fan of Reeves though - I happily ;paid money to see Tin Machine I think this line-up is up there with the Prayer/Wish era, I'd love to haer them record.
I love the variety of The Cure's setlist at their concerts. Nice to see a band reach back into their vaults and excite their fans. Been to too many U2 concerts where form tour to tour they throw in a couple "new songs" but for the most part it's the same old same old (With Or Without You, Until The End Of The World, One... etc.)
I like the playing of the total of albums! Seen a couple Bruce Springsteen shows where he played entire albums!
It's good, but the danger is, usually only "hard core" fans would really appreciate it. Or understand it.
What I love about these "album shows" is it is a chance to hear the music the way it was to be heard. I am a manager with Best Buy and it's funny when I showed them my iPod and they seen that I had 'complete' albums when majority of them hD just single songs from an artist. That is one thing that kids from our generation will miss out on. Purchasing a new album, tape or CD; getting it home and listening to it from start to end and admiring the Artwork and Booklets.
