Think we need a thread for sudden revelations concerning whatever....
I just realised I took a strange way to becomming a cure fan!
Involving music from bon jovi, East 17, even the kelly family.....
Thanks for the thread, MW. Perhaps it was in my case also. Or perhaps you see logical link between Iron Maiden and The Cure? Well, there are some Gothic things here and there... I agree, it's much worse if you start with Bon Jovi.
An impression of sound Then everything is gone Forever
I made the progression from Roxette to the Cure. But well, if you compare Per Gessle's hairstyle from 89/90/91 to Robert's...!!!
haha, yes the hair is not that off I liked roxette too. I got from roxette, bon jovi, michael learns to rock and some other artists I can´t remember directly into the cure. I was 13 at the time. After that I progressed into U2, green day, NOFX, DAD....and others around the age of 15. Some of the bands I still hear, some I have laid behind me. I was NEVER a boy-band girl though!

The world is neither fair nor unfair - It's just us trying to feel that there's some sense in it

I would say Iron Maiden and The Cure, are a bit closer than bon jovi and the cure. well, at least as the people that hear it goes!

i started to enjoy the iron maiden not more than 15 years ago...i was obsessed by goth in Youth and started with the Cult - Love in 85
MW: I still like early to mid-90s U2. And Larry Mullen Jr. is still HOT!
I'vejust realisedthat I do have way too many clothes!!! I may be slightly obsessed with clothes, boots and cosmetics...and music.
think the early stuff, was good. boy, war, rattle and hum...... Have mixed feelings about actung baby and the joshua tree and I haven´t heard anything they have done since "all that you can´t leave behind". That was a huge disappointment. I hear it sometimes when I feel like hearing something easy and bland

MW: I love love loooooove Achtung Baby! Then it all went a bit wrong. Apart from Larry Mullen Jr., all drummers should look like Larry, fact!
the album just reminds me of pudding.... yes, the desert thing you eat. Know it´s strange. Maybe because I heard it on a summer vacation where I often got sick from driving....and anything that makes me sick like that, reminds me of pudding....as I was forced to eat when I was a kid and I HATED it and felt sick!
I love "One". thats my fav U2 song, and also the first song I ever heard.
Larry Mullen Jr....not my kind of taste in men...but could defferently be worse

when i was in school back in the 80s my passion for music at the time was the jesus and mary chain , the smiths , echo and the bunnymen , loads of indie , u2 , as well as iron maiden (and loads of metal , thrash , rock and dare i say it glam). the natural progression for me was towards the goth end of the musical spectrum and the usual bands the sisters , the cult(i know not exactly goth) , the mish , etc. etc.

Ha-ha glam rock - it's my guilty secret too..! I shared a room with my older sister who was into GNR (I still maintain the Appetite for Destruction is a good rock album *hides* - but anything after that ). She also had a penchant for the worst kind of glam metal you can imagine (Faster Pussycat, Poison, Hanoi Rocks, LA Guns) which I, being an impressionable pre-teen, also got into.
Luckily, my sister's friend's older sister had considerably better musical taste (The Cure) and so a tape-recording of Standing on a Beach made it's way into our possession and from there I never looked back.
From there I went towards mostly indie bands of that time, and also a bit of retrospective getting into The Smiths, The Doors and Bowie (along with raiding my Mum's (Motown, The Kinks & Elvis) and my Dad's (The Beatles, Hendrix, The Stones, Billy Holiday) record collections (I left the Jethro Tull and Yes albums well alone though)...
I still love a bit of decent metal though - QOTSA rock!
