My earliest memory is when Lullaby came out. I hate spiders and remember the video quite vividly Then it was Never Enough, which prompted me to 'borrow' my dad's Mixed Up cd, then it progressed from there I would have been what, 11/12 years old then?
Early of 1986, an old friend come to my house, we were talking, drinking beers and he said I have a new songs, he had a pirate tape with 3 songs on Side A, it played in sequence "Killing an Arab", "Boys Don't Cry" and "Jumping Someome else's Train". I thought what really nice songs and he said me it's The Cure a english band. In the next day I was running to downtown to buy something them, in the store had just one vinyl "The Head On The Door" and a magazine with pictures/interview...I was 17. More later I got trade a tape of "Concert" and I needed listen everyday, unfortunately the long plays didn't come to here in these years, two years more later I was doing my college and I don't have money to buy cure stuff...I hate this time, five years passed and I finished it then I decided now to discovered them, I went a nice record store and the seller presented me "wish" the last album, I bought and loved it in the same week I come back there and bought the first four albuns and after listen "Seventeen Seconds", "Faith" and "Pornography" returned those feelings and love inside me with full force...and then I knew that will be forever!
Cure Forever Edu.
This is one of first pics of the band that I saw in early 1986 in a magazine. I can't remember where is this, maybe France? anybody knows?
I live in Rome and in 1989 one of my best friends (he still is a very close one, we will be attending together to next RAH show) called me 'The Cure are playing at the Palaeur tonight, why don't we take a ride?'. 'Who???' I had never heard The Cure before but, why not? At that time it was quite easy to jump the gates in order to enter to the concerts for free, but for some reason we were not in good shape that night and we gave up. It was the night of the famous 'Faith' for Tienanmen victims... Next year we went to Croatia to spend a part of our summer holidays. In that small village (Premantura) there was a small disco, not more than a big room with some lights. They used to play songs from Mixed Up. In that place I felt in love with the Cure and we have never ever left each other. And this means that The Cure and me are getting quite old...

in 1983 i was at a friends house listening -probably to depeche mode when my friends brother came into the room. He threw a pile of vinyls on the table and said -listen to this! and walked out. In the pile of records we found Pornography, Faith and some Birthday Party 12". (Ive followed Nick Cave since then). I turned into a huge Cure-fan but the passion wore off around Disintegration. But then Ive been rediscovering them now and again -I played Seventeen Seconds for my 15 year old daughter the other day and she loved it. She bought me the Never Enough-book for my birthday. Pornography is still one of the best albums I've ever heard.
I had been a Led Zeppelin fan since I was probably 6. No joke! My father thought I was a satanist at one point and I think he wanted the priest to exorcise me but since my mom was a David Bowie fan and into different music than my dad (he listened to Frank Sinatra and Perry Como haha although I like Frank too) my mom was not frightened. Then in 1980 John Bonham went and died and that put the stop to Zep (despite my 36 letters to Swan Song records ) so I was a little lost. AND THEN I heard The Cure on college radio. The very first song I heard was A Forest! I was blown away! I had heard The Sex Pistols, The Clash, etc... but The Cure were very different.
I went to my first The Cure concert in 1984. My cousin was going to Buffalo College at the time and I got in for free. (I probably owe them a few bucks ) It was an amazing concert. In total I have seen them 14 times. The most recent concert The Reading Festival in England in 2012 where I met some wonderful people who I am proud to call friends and will adore forever!
Non Cure fans and my local friends always ask me "How could you go see a band that many times? Are you in a cult? Are you a groupie? (that's from my BFs brother who is an azz)" I will tell them if you think 14 is a lot I know of Cure fans who have seen them over 100 times. The only reason I have ONLY seen them 14 times is because I live in the USA!!
But here is what I tell them, even though I believe it falls on deaf ears, I don't just go to see The Cure because I absolutely adore their music. Yes that is a big reason but there is another element almost if not as important as the music. When I meet another Cure fan for the very first time, it does not feel like the first time. It feels like we have known each other for "100 Years" and I may be speaking out of turn but my guess is all of you feel the same. I have gone to most Cure concerts by myself but I was NEVER alone. I was surrounded by like minded people who completely understand why we love this band and why we will always love them! I'm looking forward to meeting even more of you!
and that put the stop to Zep (despite my 36 letters to Swan Song records )
you were writing letters to Swan Song records? hahaha, that's amazing
Yep I actually have their replies saved in my scrap book plus an autographed pic of the boys that one of the ladies who replied sent me. It turned out that lady is a cousin of mine. Lol Swan Song was in New York City at the time. She said she was sorry but could not do anything about their break up. I was 16 at the time what did I know? But one door closed and another opened.
