I much prefer the earlier versions of this track, especially with the wah-wah. Seems that this was dropped for some reason?
anyway, have a listen to the stereo separation of the guitars on this version I just came across on the Toobs… wow! I don’t remember it being like this on Play Out, but to be fair, I don’t think I ever listened to the VHS of Play Out with headphones so maybe this is the original mix?
can anyone confirm? My VHSs are faaaar from me and will be for a while yet.

As usual, certain songs means very different things for each of us. For me, Never Enough marks the beginning of the end of the golden Cure era. I was highly disappointed when the song was released. I felt that it was a terrible, weak, boring, silly song then and I feel the same after 30 years. I came from a highly obssessed period with the band, collecting records, cds, bootlegs, memorabilia and everything Cure related available. After Disintegration I recieved Mixed Up and Never Enough as a clear sign of exhaustion from RS. It made me loose a lot of interest in them. Harold and Joe didn’t help either.
By the time Wish was released I was heavily into FNM, JA, Mr Bungle and the like, so High as first single also didn’t impressed me. I love Wish but I think it’s an irregular record wich feels like a transition from perfection to “what came next”.

Listening to the Show version, I can hear a little bit of wah-wah but it's Robert playing an additional part over Perry's rhythm and Porl's "cutting sick" parts. The wah melody is gone, baby, gone!
What a shame. Oh well...
gongoro73 sorry to hear you didn't / don't like the song, but there you have it. Different strokes, for different folks.
I do like that you got into FNM, Jane's and Bungle.. a conversation for another topic, methinks!

I still remember the press they did for Never Enough - it came out of a studio session to record some electronic stuff that didn't work out so at the end of the day they just rocked out a little to let off steam and Never Enough came out of that. And it sounds like that, a band letting their hair down for a bit and having fun.

OT, but I love this video. A rare RS in black lipstick moment.

That's what I always saw it as. It's not the best single but it's certainly not the worst & it's a complete riot. As for the current arrangement, I really like it. It's been taken to a total ball-to-the-wall rock out number. & it's still a lot of fun
