fair do's,its not a cure album...but,in my opinion, its better than a couple of the cure studio albums (i'm looking at you 4:13 and WMS). perhaps it could be discused here...
Agree with @notkristie and also a bit unfair to "compare" it to a Cure album. Maybe unfair is not a good word but it's not really like Cure music. That being said, it is a fabulous effort and of course I only like it when Robert is singing. Sorry Jeanette.
I do prefer the original album without the demo versions on the extra disc. I think I got used to it like that & hearing Bob sing those songs makes it a smidge harder not to slap a The Cure label on it. Sex-Eye-Make-Up is an utterly brilliant piece of work
I only discovered this album in the mid nineties, flicking through CD racks in a store. I found the pressing with the hype sticker and bought it immediately. Severin and Smith, what could go wrong? I hated it and passed it on.
The remaster with the bonus tracks was exactly what I was looking for. Only then did I realise that there were 2 RS vocals tracks on the first CD. 😂
So the mastering may suck, but the second CD is a great album and the most essential of all the deluxe reissues IMO.
I now sneak the 2 original RS tracks in with my Japanese Whispers/The Top playlist and repossessed my stickered original.
It would be so perfect If you would just fall out the window
Oddly I never really liked the bonus disc on the deluxe. It just didn't feel right with Uncle Bob singing on those tracks that Jeanette sings on.
I felt the same when I first heard his vocals on those songs. With time, though, I came to appreciate them. Since he is the one (along with SS, of course) who wrote the tracks, I just feel like his vocal interpretations are the way they were intended. Not to dis Jeannette L, but, "Dammit, Jim, she's a dancer, not a vocalist!"
I think A Blues in Drag with this vocals is the song I would most like to hear while I'm (peacefully) dying. It's the most beautiful song I know.
I really wish I knew the exact lyrics. I'm not sure how close (I suspect, how far is more accurate) I am and they aren't online any where. If only someone would reveal them.
