Hi Everyone,
I'm not a computer person, so please pardon if this is an insane question. But here it goes: Lets say, I wanted to find someone who could/would create a highly efficient, searchable database of all things cure that are online - all youtube videos, all websites, all forums, several keywords, and so on. The dream database would have transcripts of all interviews, where one could search for key words like "cure fans" "last tour" and so on. Essentially, if I had a huge budget, and worked at Warner Brothers Studios, I could hire an enitre post production team to do this research/archive and we would put it in sometime like filemaker pro or? Peoplw oudl be in charch of metadata and so on....
alas, I'm just another broke ass creative.
One could say this is a glorified google, but I'm dreaming of a way to search with higher precision. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it possible? how much money would it take? Why do I torture myself?
It's certainly possible but would take an enormous amount of time & it would need to be hosted somewhere too. Forever Drowning was quite good, if a bit clunky. But it stopped getting updated a long time ago & eventually close. I have no idea who has the database or whether it still exists. But if you could acquire that & host it, then you're more than half way to what you're suggesting. A wiki would be another good way to go. Not one of the standard wikipedia pages but something more customised like this. This one took many years of hard work & dedication to build, but, as far as resources for for The Sisters go, this is probably the best by far. You'd also need to restrict editing permissions, as wikis can get defaced quite easily.
I always wished there was something like the DM Live Wiki for The Cure. It's an absolutely brilliant resource but yeah, I imagine it would take years to put together.
Agree. I wanted to make a 'hard data' sort of thing but it's just so time consumming! And indeed it costs money. I have thought about an open space, where everybody could come and add informations. Maybe I'll just do Word files and make them available, i'll see. Good idea anyway, i think

Right. I personally could never do it because I do not have the skills. What I wonder is, if I had the money to *pay* someone to do it, what would it take? I'm going to take a leap and imagine one could be paid for one month of full time work, to design it and implement, THEN, have a monthly maintenance fee on top of that. If anyone here does this kind of thing for a living, could you humor me? What's an hourly rate for a skill as such? $50 per hour? $2000 per week? $10,000 to get it off the ground? I have no idea! I but it would be nice to have a ballpark amount (in any currency).

Also, It's a shame that there has been *so much* work done by fans, for free, but it's all sectioned off just by de facto of one fan here and one fan there doing their passion project. It would be wonderful to see all efforts joined into such a searchable database...Forever drowning now only exists in the wayback, and was hosted by someone named Armand, i believe?

Today, for example, I was thinking of an interview where Perry says something about seeing fans sleeping in railway stations while following The Cure on tour. I wish I could find that quote, when it aired, who published it, and so on. It's a dream but things like this do happen in the movie world. Of course, with a huge budget. Then, there are things like the Babble Maining list, and Other Voices, which now are almost completely erased from History. This is a shame, in mu humble opinion, because these things were vital lifelines to fans connecting before the era of smartphones and so on. It would be so nice to have everything properly archived. i supposed these are irrelevant thoughts because I cannot make it happen. But I can keep the dream alive.
You're talking about my dream work, right? If you want to finance me, I'm ok
For information the minimum salary in France is about 10,25€ per hour (1555€ per month). For just compiling datas on a computer, i don't think any company would pay a lot more than that. Ok, maybe 2000 if the person also deals with creating a basic website. I see a webdesigner earns about 30-40000€ per year, but it's a real creative job.
Indeed It would be wonderful to see all efforts joined into such a searchable database... But have you seen thecurerecords or thecure.cz or cureconcerts.de and afoolisharrangement, they have been working on it for moths, or rather years, and it's still growing, because datas keep coming and it takes time everytime a new info is given. I think we're fine with these four, then it's a matter of merging and organizing the datas they contain.
That is why somehow regret what is the internet, because there are so many informations, but a lot is scattered everywhere, we miss plenty of things.

I would love to fund you if i could!! Y,es I follow all of the above. And it's all fantastic and frankley I wish THEY could get some funding for their continued dedication. I think the missing link, for me, is the idea of some sort of key word search with bootleg videos. We have become accustomed to all of this media being available to us for free. However, the fact remains that each and every uploaded video by random users *could* be taken down by The Cure, or anyone who owns the music licensing, or any entity that shot the videos (festivals not the fans ). In this 20 year saga I have been on, to try to make a film about fans, I'm tortured by knowing there is a video *somewhere*, where Perry says he felt bad for fans sleeping in railways so he gives them guest list. I wish I could 'look it up in the database'. Or, for example, I saw a video recently where Robert talks very fondly about fans on the dreamtour. how we are not all insane. I have bookmarked it, but the preocess gets messy without having a go-to source, exactly like we have right now with cure.concerts.de for all concerts and setlists. This is an INCREDIBLE resource. But what if it goes away?

for anyone who is interested in discussing the idea of a massive CURE wiki/database type thing, I have started another thread on COLLECTING THE CURE on FB. I don't want to lure anyone away from here. Rather, there is a gentlemen that has already started a CURE WIKI, Benjamin Londa, who is interested in updating his work and making ti public. but he needs some help. you can DM me or check this if you are on that site: www.facebook.com/groups/1641366042774855/permalink/2875785052666275/
