I'm wondering if Robert even read the book yet... I know Lol gave it to him in May and he has had down time throughout the tour... But I do wonder if he has even read it yet... maybe they all took turns reading chapters in the bus instead of singing songs from the Aristocats... no one really knows...?
He has been quoted a few times saying that "the new album" is a bit of a sore point because it was made with a band that no longer exists. It is also something that is really respectful of Robert... he never once mentions anything negative towards any ex-member of The Cure... (except for Lol prior to 2000).... he simply said, "people have other lives, if they want to paint, they can go paint..." or something to that effect...
If he wants help with his art for the new album - I have some friends that are really great artists....
You know, I've been thinking about this a lot since the tour ended. I've read reviews and told people about going to the concerts and I was quite surprised by their reactions. They seemed to imagine that it was some kind of nostalgia tour - an 80's revival, like Duran Duran or Culture Club. I argued it out, insisting that The Cure were still relevant and ongoing but then I really thought about it. What was I really singing along to at those concerts? Was it current work of theirs, written in the last decade? It was with sadness that I realised that maybe The Cure were indeed no different to many current nostalgia bands, touring for a bit of a pension top-up and a remembrance of past glory. I went to see a Cure tribute band a month or so ago and even they sell themselves as a trip down memory lane, reminding the audience of their youth. How sad it seemed to me because I had never thought of The Cure like that. They were never popular enough with the wider public to be particularly 'in fashion' but they still always felt in touch with the times and their songs always helped me through whatever life was throwing at me. This latest tour (with two exceptions) was filled with with songs that are decades old and, yes, I know they are amazing but I'm yearning for something new. I want to feel that buzz of listening to something for the first time, to waiting for it to grow on me, to listen again and again and hear new sounds and develop new meanings and memories with new songs. I don't want to be a sad old woman following a has-been band around, having people pity me for dwelling on the past and not living in the present. I'm scared that it's going to become a reality. I don't know whether Robert (and really it is just Robert who will decide) is feeling too lazy or scared or has nothing left to say but I have a horrible feeling that he's going to let the band fade away, occasionally perhaps popping up to play a few greatest hits shows. I want a new album so badly (and I know someone who is friends with Roger and there is an album done but he says it's not good enough to release) but I fear that it will never be heard. Sad indeed 😢

I wouldn't say he is lazy... in fact I would never say his is lazy... But he has been quoted saying that the band will never actually announce a break up but that they would just fade away..
He has said he doesn't want to be an old man still doing this, but he also said he is as old as he feels and he doesn't feel old...
I have often thought that this was a goodbye tour, but it really doesn't feel like it. It just feels like a thank you tour more than anything...
If there is a new album, it is probably the other half of 4:13 Dream (4:14 scream?) and will probably be released if they ever do another Join the Dots or a remaster of 4:13 Dream...?
I guess that's why I went to a few concerts this time round, just in case. I don't think he will release old songs now, not unless they all get re-recorded with the newer line-up. Then again, I don't want old songs rehashed, I want an album full of 'it will never be the same's' . That would be my choice.

Robert is known for resurrecting old (unreleased) songs for new releases. Remember he had Watching Me Fall ready (lyrically) in 1998. LGTB was a 1982 effort (Temptation Two). But it's not so much that. It'll be the arrangement & production that will put the shine on.

I hope so. I hope performing live has inspired Robert to put something down in the studio soon.
I believe some of the lyrics in Step Into the Light also appeared in the 2008 tour program, so we know at least part of that song was written years ago. Like steve writes, it's the arrangement and other stuff that makes things new. Many lyricists will tell you they keep their writing and sometime parts of it will be rearranged or resurrected until it's just right-or reuse lyrics with completely rewritten music.
I'm not worrying about the future too much, but I definitely feel optimistic about an album of some kind. It just doesn't feel like the end yet, at least from my audience seat during this tour. The edge of Reeves, the enthusiasm of the whole band really felt great.
as far as i know Pearl already did some graphic designs to promote Lol's book recently...
This is true. Lol promotes Pearl's stuff while on the book tour - you can buy it wherever he is. They also do a lot together when they are in LA - I believe something is happening with both of them tomorrow in LA actually...
