I don’t understand why Cure fans like that way of playing.
I absolutely don't. In my opinion Reeves ruins that song.
My opinion too. In fact, I think it ruins a lot more. Amazing guitar player, fantastic human being, but it just doesn’t fit The Cure at all. Anyway, of course, just my opinion.

Agreed. I don't think his style fits in with The Cure overall. The only song where I kinda like what he's added to the song is Lovesong. But even there, I prefer how Porl would have played it, for example in the version in "Paris" (and in the album version).

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.
I would say that Reeves takes Porl’s widdly-widdly playing, as seen on the album version of Unstuck, and a LOT of 4:13 Dream, to the next level. Clearly Robert and the band like Reeves’ takes on many of the songs else he wouldn’t be in the band, or certainly wouldn’t be “allowed” to play the songs like he does. Remember 2012 versions of FtEotDGS? Ha!
I like a lot of what Reeves does, but some I don’t, but then there are The Cure songs I don’t like (I’m looking at you The Lovecats) so it’s ALL down to taste…
but I DO take your point, that solo is a far cry from the album or even most pre-Reeves versions.
ha, at least he’s not playing the actual god-awful album SAX version! I’ve always hated the sound of the sax. The melody I like, so when it’s translated to guitar it’s great, but the sax. 🤮
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!

My favourite solo version on A Night Like This is the one on the Orange live concert.

Of course. Just different taste. I wouldn’t change Pearl for Reeves in a million years.
Sax solo in ANLT is terrible, but it is not a sax problem, but the use of the sax. Give Me It sax is out of this world.
No sax, they're The Cure not Spandau Ballet. No centre stage guitar solos, they're The Cure not ACDC
It’s precisely that they ARE The Cure that all those things are part of their evolving sound. Doesn’t mean anyones gotta like it. As I alluded to earlier ( or thought I sis, or meant to ), the cure isn’t what WE want, or don’t want, The Cure is what they put out and play in each instance.
Like 4Cure, I thought at the time, and still do, that was a terrible representation or version of The Cure, but thats what The Curr was for those years. Too bad for me that I didn’t like it.

I agree with this statement.
