Tried to find a report on this as well but so far only what was posted on curefans is coming up. If anyone sees anything posted from a news source please post it here.
This makes me very angry that someone would do this to Robert. They should be ashamed.

"On a comercial flight from Sao Paulo and closed to midnight The Cure arrived . The fans could see the band at the Asuncion Sheraton Hotel, where Robert Smith, Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O’Donnell and Reeves Gabrels arrived from Silvio Pettirossi Airport.
The seconds in between getting off the black VAN and the getting in the hotel were not enough for the fans who were waiting for any of them to go out and say hello. Around 2 am, someone who identified himself as in charge of Cure’s security went out to take a break and talked to the fans showing a confidence attitude, and identified himself as “Ingo”. Hi told them that the guys were very tired and they were not going to say hello as they were assaulted in Sao Paulo.<o:p></o:p>
The assault. According to Ingo’s version, Robert Smith and the other members were followed by robbers on motorbikes, during a car ride they were doing around the city. It was a very tense moment where they even were pointed with a gun.<o:p></o:p>
The Cure will be performing tomorrow for the first time in Paraguay, in the Jockey Club Paraguayo, in what, according their performances in Brazil, it will be a 3 hours concert with more than 40 songs.<o:p></o:p>
The band is accompanied by Tim Pope, very known director who were the artificer of the majority of their videos and who’s in charge of the tour’s documentary."<o:p></o:p>
I really hope it's not true. Poor Robert Fear this is the price you pay when you're famous, so hard as it sounds. Hope the bodyguards are protect the band.
I walk wondering why, the same dream so many times
