In so many ways we're all quite happy with that. And yet if they pulled something the equivalent of Close To Me or Lovecats (stylistically) out of the bag I'd still be over the moon!

There is a clear lack of memorable high quality pop (upbeat) songs in their catalogue in the last 25 years or so.
While they have delivered many good, even great, songs of the gloomier kind, the last pop masterpieces belong to Wish.
Already WMS, while having many pop tunes, doesn't have any really great ones (I kinda like Mint Car and Gone!, but we're nowhere near Friday I'm in Love territory).
After that the upbeat songs they have made are nothing special (some of them almost caricatures of past glory: Taking Off is a bad caricature of Just Like Heaven; The Only One a bad caricature of High).

The 13th and Strange Attraction don’t fit that pop bill for you?
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!
I get why The 13th wasn't well received back in the day but now at least to me it's way more fun and interesting than most of their other pop songs. Crackpot salsa? I'll take it.
Sorry for the off topic, Alone is really good.

They are upbeat, but I don't like them that much at all.
