Anybody here into Coil? I haven't listened to them in years but am just delving into their later works which have passed me by. Currently, obsessed with 'The Ape of Naples' and 'Black Antlers'.
I'm not entirely sure if this is helpful for my mental wellbeing during lockdown but I find their music utterly compelling at the moment.

Strange coincidence! I have always really liked what I know of Coil - which is basically two albums, Horse Rotorvator and Scatology - and one of my current resolutions is to listen to more of their stuff... Anyway, I listened to the Ape of Naples for the first time a week or so ago and it completely blew my mind. I was haunted by it for days afterwards. Will try Black Antlers next!

Glad I'm not the only one! For some reason their music seems like the perfect soundtrack for the somewaht unreal situation that we are in at the moment. Haunting is defenitely a good word to describe their music.
I'm loving this concert from the Black Anler tour in Paris:
This is their last show, two weeks before John's death and it's pretty disturbing but very powerful:
I like Coil, but was mostly exposed through a friend in college and never really sought them out much on my own besides Love’s Secret Domain. I have a vivid memory of riding around in one of the most violent, close thunderstorms in his Jeep messed up out of our minds listening to Coil. Totally terrifying, probably stupid, and fun.
I could see putting some on tonight while I geek out with playing some Warcraft.
I think listening to too much Coil right now could push anyone over the edge.
I listened to them a bit in the 80s/90s. I always liked some of their songs but never got into them in a big way. But I am really loving their later stuff which had passed me by. It's a lot more melodic but still very captivating. But, yes, there is always that disturbing element to their music.
Coil is a bit too frightening and extreme to my tastes, and one other group with similar frightenedness, and not in a good way is Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows. I have a few coil albums on my computer though waiting for a messed up day to mess myself even more. I think the best coil album is Time Machines. Reminds me of space and drone music that I listen a lot when falling into sleep late at night.

One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain So hit me with music, hit me with music

Thanks for reviving. This inspired my current listening choice, as it's a pretty weird Thanksgiving.

I know what you mean. I do find them a bit frightening at times but also really compelling. You definitely need to be in a certain mood. I really like their later 'Moon Music' phase, but yes, listening to too much Coil is probably not a good thing. I just think that they are the perfect soundtrack for these strange times. I'm currently sitting in quarantine in a hotel room in Auckland which I am only allowed to leave for 45 minutes each day if I want to walk in circles in a yard. So Coil somehow makes sense at the moment.
I don't know Sopor Aeternus but I will check them out.
Have you listened to The Ape of Naples? That's quite serene by their standards.
Oh and happy (and hopefully not too weird) Thanksgiving NotKristie!

Sopor Aeternus is so funeral and gothic it borders on ridiculous. It's not maybe similar musically to coil but the compelling effect is the same depending on mood. Both coil and Sopor A are banned from my playlist atm. So they must have something in common.

I like Ape of Naples, the serenity of it, perhaps I have to give this group a chance some day. I can't quite fit this music to my mood most of the time. But there's beauty in it, I see that.
