The charm of living in beautiful and popular place... Sorry you have all those irresponsible people terrorizing your town, Steve.
In Poland things are going wrong, there are more than 30.000 new cases per day. The govt considers a ban on travelling. They woke up much too late with closing everything besides essential stores but better late than never. Such a ban would help a lot also in your area.
Yep. That's what I want to see. A travel restriction in place. The situation here is spiralling out of control & has been for a few weeks now. In the beginning the authorities got it spot on & travel restrictions were in place then. Now you can go wherever you want as long as it's before the curfew. Being in the shops was always going to be a bit stressy with the weekend coming, but it was 5 times worse yesterday. I shudder to think what they'll be like today.

Yeah, I've never really understood the point of curfews in all of this. I guess they hope to keep people from day tripping, or something? People are going to do all the same risky stuff during daylight hours that they would do at night.

Unfortunately, it might be a good idea to self isolate for most of the weekend. Blasted inconsiderate city dwellers!

The curfews are from 8pm until 5am. I guess they're in place to minimise evening/ night time socialising when people are more likely to have a couple of drinks & get more care free. I get the concept. But you're right. Curfew or not, the plague people are bringing it out into other regions during the day (especially at weekends) & so transmission rates stay high.

Not sure about curfews either. Is it about people gathering at night to have a couple of drinks in the street? Well, I saw such things but it isn't a common behaviour after all if there are no pubs and other places open. Unless it's a day like New Year's Eve... We had a curfew then and it probably worked.
Curfew in Easter might be more about visiting friends and family 'cause that happens very often. You go visit someone and stay at their place till late hours. If there is a curfew you can't because 8 pm is definitely too early to return home. And staying overnight may be a problem for both a guest and a host
Anyway, no curfew here so far but warm days increase the risk of transmission also in less touristic places. People want to go out. I'm invited for a supposedly safe walk in the park next week with four of my workmates. I don't feel safe to be honest. I can't imagine keeping the distance, masks and everything. Someone will say "C'mon! We're in the park!" and masks will fall. I don't know yet if I'm going to meet them all. Everyone has to stick to the rules if they are to be at least a bit efficient.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.
YES! I just learned that my sister's 20-something daughter will be vaccinated fully by May, meaning I can safely travel to see my mom, sister, and her family in the midwest for the first time since Christmas 2019. I really can't believe it. I thought this day would never come. The thought of seeing them and just traveling ANYWHERE again has me giddy. My mom is almost 82 and her health has declined during the pandemic due to isolation so I feel so lucky.

That's awesome news K. The little glimmers of hope shining out of all the gloom are starting to get brighter

Wonderful news! Does normality really go back? Incredible perspective...

Oh, nooooo. We’re all still a loooooong way off from “normal.” Some days I’m sure things will never be as they were. People seem to have drifted away from others and into the virtual world of increased isolation to a point of no return, I fear.
Curfew's being eased here. Moving from 8pm to 10pm-5am.
Non essential shops can start opening but need to keep numbers down so there is ~1 person per 10m².
Hairdressers/ beauty salons & similar services can start opening from 19th, as can kindergartens & primary schools where all staff have been vaccinated giving them a couple of weeks to make sure they're ready.
Sounds all good but, looking at the rate of infection, I think it's maybe a bit too soon to take such big steps. Orbán's relying on sustained vaccination rates &, to be fair, they're doing pretty good on that front. They need to really. Although they bought 16k ventilators last year, they don't have enough staff to operate them.

That sounds sad... I don't know really. Sometimes I think that everything will go back to what we used to call normal. Even more, I look at some of my friends/acquaintances and it seems that they live the same way as before even now. They go to the same places for holiday as before, meet the same people, do almost the same things in their free time. They just don't attend big gatherings and cultural events, as the latter just don't exist. The biggest change is working and learning from home. From my point of view, even if it's a pain in the ass at times, I prefer to work from home. I don't want to go back to the office. It will be too much for me again.
Anyway, I don't know, maybe it's just a lifestyle but I dare to think that after effective vaccinations the normality will go back.

I will try to channel some of your optimism, lioness.

Me and optimism! Come on, that's the two different worlds

In Brazil, on covid isolation wards, nurses have devised a way to provide some way of allowing patients a way to feel the touch of another. They fill rubber gloves with warm water after tying them together & place the patients' hand between them.
