A staffer at my son’s day camp just got a positive test result. Thankfully, our son was not exposed through this person. But it did take them from the 16th if July until today to get their test results. That’s ridiculous.

Got together with a friend last night and he shared two pieces of insider info that I found particularly interesting...
First, as of early July no one died of COVID-19 in the entire Cleveland Clinic system that did not have a pre-existing condition.
Second, apparently hospitals receive additional compensation for deaths attributed to COVID-19. Friend relayed the story of a family whose mother passed away in a hospital (outside Ohio) after a long battle with cancer. The hospital put COVID-19 as cause of death. The family had to fight hospital to change the cause of death from COVID-19 to cancer.
The nuance of the death of someone “with COVID-19” versus someone “from COVID-19” easily lost in the numbers, along with the Cleveland Clinic info, makes it really hard to assess what is really happening.

I do want to clarify something I inadvertently left out of the Cleveland Clinic stat when I posted the item above... it’s no one *under 65* has died of COVID-19 without a preexisting condition that complicated the virus. Forgot that age detail. Sorry.

I was looking to see if I could find anything talking about this, but the only hit I got aside from sources talking about University hospitals cutting physician pay was subscription-only.
Tying funds to factors like this is a very slippery slope. I felt a lot of that teaching special education. "Hey, don't you think we'd better evaluate Davie for services and slap a label on him? Staff head count and all!"
We were watching that episode of John Oliver last night. I remarked how much "mask debate" and "masturbate" sound similar when repeated many times over.
P.S. A debate requires people actually supporting their opinions and at least attempting to communicate, not going straight to punching or shooting people. That's the part we miss, here.

Fair question to challenge that second point I posted. I was able to find this piece which states, in part, "Hospitals and doctors do get paid more for Medicare patients diagnosed with COVID-19 or if it's considered presumed they have COVID-19 absent a laboratory-confirmed test, and three times more if the patients are placed on a ventilator to cover the cost of care and loss of business resulting from a shift in focus to treat COVID-19 cases."
I also thought this was related info worth considering regarding the costs associated with COVID-19.
