Thanks, steve. We toggle between agreeing he should go back and he should take the semester off almost daily, but I think we are definitely leaning towards sending him back to school. He has a two-person room with their own bathroom and kitchen, so we feel pretty good about that. The university has announced there will be a communication plan for updates, but haven’t yet unveiled it. I agree that will be key. I’m not worried about my kid… I feel like he gets what’s going on and really is a good kid (he hasn’t complained about being stuck home with Mom and Dad for three+ months!), it’s more the Other People’s Kids factor that is the wildcard.
Believe me, @notkristie, my wife and I were fully embracing our quasi-empty nest lifestyle when he first went off to college last fall. Would love to regain some of that!
UK October gigs now being pushed into next year. Looks like multiple postponements for lots of things. I have to choose between Suede and The Mish now, argh!
First person I knew directly to die from COVID-19. My high school band teacher. Made the paper because the county commissioner was a year behind me in the band. Mr Weaver was pretty old but still not a good way to go. RIP.
Shaking my head after reading our school chancellor's letter to families. No actual helpful information contained within, just bloated, hollow platitudes. Why can't people just say, "This school year sucked. Let's hope it never happens again. Here's a plan."
A couple of months ago, we ran into one of my son's school mates and her mom outside. I knew the mom was out of work and looking for a job before COVID started and I believe she is a single parent (and a minority, so things aren't exactly easy for her anyway). I'd been really concerned about her when everything shut down. She told me the city is going to give every family with school children a $420 food benefit card because of not having food (kids get free lunch and breakfast in the city) while school was out. She kind of laughed and said, "Well how is that going to help with rent and bills?" I think of her a lot in terms of what will happen if schools are out again or on an abbreviated schedule this fall. How long until she and many others can find work and maintain a work schedule again to provide for their families? This feels like a third world country.

Shaking my head also at this
San Diego Sharp Memorial’s ICU floor is at full capacity because of the recent surge in COVID patients. They now have to open up other floors to accommodate the large influx. The makeup comprises of younger aged patients 21-40. With the 4th of July weekend coming up combined with irresponsibility, entitled attitudes, selfishness, and self-absorption, all SD hospitals will be at their max capacities putting healthcare workers at more risk and risking their families. We’re not even done with this first wave.
Be safe listen to the CURE and stay healthy you all..
My mom just told me that one of her brothers has it. He flew from California to Philadelphia to see their grandkid before he started his cancer treatments because "everyone has been really good about quarantine" but they also decided to go pop in on his wife's mother because "all her kids were coming to see her" and there was an impromptu family reunion. Well it turned out the mom had it and because EVERYONE spent hours in her presence hugging and sharing food the whole time, everyone in the room got Covid. All it takes is one hole in the quarantine to bring the whole house down. Literally, in this case.

I cannot believe how the UK have got this so wrong. They relaxed restrictions nation wide & now they're seeing regional spikes. They have just re-locked down Leicester. This is so back ass-wards it's untrue. You lock down everything & then monitor regions to see where you can relax a bit. Not the other way around. That's not exactly hard to get your head around is it? I think the key problem they have though (apart from half a million morons piling onto Bournemouth beach during a pandemic) is that they are completely unable to measure, track or trace the infection. Instead they are playing a dangerous game of whack a mole. The people "in charge" have even referred to it as whack a mole. What a complete shiatshow.

The US is just as bad or worse. The whole reopening question in spite of rising numbers is frightening. Even in my state where the governor has handled this as well as anyone. He just put the brakes on the reopening this weekend. Having all this turn into a political fight is just dumb. I do not see how wearing a mask (& gloves in at risk situations) infringes on liberty. It's just common sense in addition to good manners. A few weeks ago I got my car serviced. I pretty much do everything early in the morning to avoid crowds. By the time my car was done there were 7 people in the waiting area. Only 2 of us were wearing masks. There is a growing tendency in the US to ignore history & delete inconvenient parts. People should really take a look at what happened in Philadelphia during the Spanish flu pandemic. This weekend is the big Independence Day holiday in the US. It will be a test for social distancing, etc. In addition to that this year the chance of getting your house burnt down by drunken idiots armed with serious fireworks is higher. All of the big fireworks shows have been cancelled so people are doing their own. Even though they are illegal in a lot of places they are readily available on an easy drive to tribal lands. To quote Marsellus Wallace in "Pulp Fiction": I'm pretty fooking far from ok.
I now know two people who’ve died due to covid-related complications. Both were in their 50s and both had ‘underlying conditions’ . I hate that phrase, it’s like their deaths aren’t as important as they were already Ill.. .

Same here in SD! Open up way too soon. Percentage per population has spiked from 2% to nearly 8% per 100000 people. Bars and public beaches have close in preparation for the 4th of July-Celebration- not happening
