It;s my dad's birthday today & also his wedding anniversary to his second wife Cynthia so I video called them this evening. They have been locked down for 10 weeks. Friends bring their shopping & do what they cannot do as they have been told to stay home on the Isle Of Wight. Cynth has dementia & last year they joined a local choir as singing & music is known to help. She was getting back to her old self from that. But for 10 weeks they haven't been able to do any of that & she's not in good shape now. The UK relaxed the lockdown rules (for the non-elite at least) & now they are not sure what they can or cannot do. Happy birthday/ anniversary indeed.

I'm so sorry, steve. I wish there was a way to keep up with the choir virtually (since that seems to be the answer to everything right now). Music and the arts have great power to help people dealing with those kinds of challenges, in many different ways. Is there some way she and your dad could sing or play music together?
Dementia delivers its own special kind of hell to all those touched by it. I'll never forget the feeling of calling my granny and having her not know who I was.
Wishing you, your dad, and his wife some kind of comfort and return to normalcy.

I hope their situation improves and that Cynthia can return to choir practice.

Thanks K Neither of them play instruments so it's a bit hard to partake in those activities. I think it's the combination of the music & sharing the experience with others in the same boat. The knowing you're not on your own & not done for yet is incredibly potent
I love that the woman who originally posted it subtly worked in a line from “Just Like Heaven”.

It's a strange day when you post a Cure meme and seventeen seconds later Facebook has pulled it down like you posted pornography or something. It was about 10:15 Saturday night and I was sitting on my laptop on Facebook, and that happened, and my wife said "Let's go to bed," and I just felt like I was sinking. What is it with these social media companies censoring silly things? It's never enough.
social distancing appears to be a thing of the past here, yet both my employers are hinting that all staff will continue teleworking into the new year.

The advice that keeps spewing out (there) has got so muddled that nobody seems to be sure what's right & what's not. I was surprised the other day going into a supermarket where they had taken down the perspex dividers at the cashier & removed the spacing markers from the floor. Still told to wear masks & keep the distance according the sign on the door though.
