This one is one of the scariest songs he's ever written, I mean, it could easily be included in a masters of horror compilation.
It's like the typical horror scene when the protagonist enters the room and sees her on the floor looking down, just the back of her head, she's mumbling, her voice sounds strange...
then she looks at him with those lunatic eyes, so bright... smiling
and suddenly, her smile is gone and she is dead serious, like she's ready to attack...
and finally she starts to scream, moon-struck, all hope gone, worse than dead...

Allegedly Porl wrote it which is why we will probably never hear it live again. I love this song.
more songs could be lifted from this album, and not always the hungry ghost: underneath the stars the perfect boy the only one... (no, not this one, sorry) this.here and now.with you (this one is difficult to pull off live, but it's sublime) the scream it's over the reasons why the real snow white

I agree, I'd love to hear "The Scream" live instead of "The Hungry Ghost".
But P.S.: Please, I NEVER want to hear "The perfect boy" live. I don't even want to hear it on record, I really think, it's the worst song Robert's written. Ever.
by coincidence the hold on 'Screeeam' perfectly lasts the distance of the Amersham bypass travelling at 60 m.p.h. Not that I've ever felt the need to Scream after working in Amersham of course.

It's funny how certain songs cause such opposite effects on people. To me The Perfect Boy is so uplifting, would love to see it live...
I think if he lowered the key signature he could do the scream quite nicely. Robert yells well, still, plus he has a nice range (as evidenced by his manly voice singing on Harold and Joe) It could be done.
