Looking at the poll so far, we may end up with a tie of Faith vs Pronography at whch point I think we should just stop...
Not sure I understand the grief Seventeen Seconds is getting (in the polls at least). It was the first time The Cure really discovered their sound. 3IB was sort of half forced on them. Seventeen Seconds was them doing what they actually wanted to do without interference

I'm astonished. Didn't expect so little love for such an album.
And Lol now officially crowned as the best Cure drummer.
I agree on that.
I probably lean towards Boris - I like a drummer who's fractionally ahead of time and forcing the pace. Plus, he couldn't resist a fill Anyway, still 2 drummers left in the game - it's not over yet
I reckon that Boris is the most gifted and probably the most talented of them all. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Boris drumming. But if you ask me wich drum patterns I like the most, it will definitely be the ones of Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pronography. That stark, minimal, drum machine-like rythms are pretty amazing to me. I think Lol did a hell of a job in those albums. Less is more, I guess.
Love that! i'd never thought of it as a mess but yup; it's right mess. My feeling is that it was good mess and that they tried to re do this on WMS but WMS was so bloody TIDY! KM is a great mess
Anyway, apologies, I'm overworked again...it's been good work but I've not been near the computer. I can't even believe that I joined in this game. Jeeeeeeeez...it's odd though huh? I mean Seventeen Seconds is barely more than an EP with those thirty minutes. Faith is full of adolescent and searching. Disintegration is a masterpiece and yet I like those early scraping and searching more than the later execution. It's a weird game and I'll be glad when it's over

Same here. Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pronography are pretty sacred to me. And although I think that Pornogarphy just edges it, they are all pefect in their own unique ways.
I'm going to wait a couple of days and just do the maths, to count how many songs from each album are my favourite ones and express it in percent. I can't see any other method to stay objective and honest. Four from the final five are among my beloved albums ever recorded. Well, one is above all albums ever recorded.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.

obviously I can only speak for myself (and maybe it's because I got into the cure well after that album was released) but for me it just doesn't have the same level of epic songs that the others did before. there are certainly a handful that are cure classics, but it's overall not as huge of an album as those that followed (in my opinion). ultimately, I don't go back to that album as much as any of the remaining albums in the poll (or some that have been unceremoniously let go!)
Not sure mess is the word. It's certainly a mixed bunch, but then it was supposed to be a showcase & I think (from old interviews) it was pretty much written by everyone in the band. My only gripe (apart from Catch being ever so slightly out of tune which bugs the carp out of me) is the amount of doo doo doos. Other than that, it's charming, psychedelic, dark, sleazy & poppy across both discs. It's got a bit of everything.
it’s an album that needed someone to say ‘no’ at various points😉. i always thought ‘catch’ sounded....drunk
Ehm...No. To your point of view.
