So it’s a bit of a long haul now as our travelling troubadours as they make the 12,800 km trek from Nyon to Yuzawa. I assume they are taking a plane, as walking would take three & a half months & they would miss their stage time.
Located in the Japanese Alps (like the Swiss Alps but fewer yodellers), the town is home to many ski resorts & famous for its hot springs which keep the booming heated mattress industry afloat.
Today’s show is held in the Naeba Ski resort, but the Fuji Rock Festival used to be held at the base of Mt Fuji, the volcano that took its name from the manufacturers of cameras & photographic film. But organisers felt the risk of concert goers being covered in molten lava & flying rocks (despite being a dormant volcano) wasn’t a good look & moved it to Yuzawa.
The ski resort itself is steeped in history. Bloke down the pub tells me that in medieval times Samurai used the three slalom burns on the 32° slope to strengthen their knees & upper leg muscles & were even thought to be early pioneers of snow boarding. Since then, the ancient art of skiing has become a major industry enjoyed by many all over the world & all thanks to the Samurai warriors for raising its status.
Now that you’re all itching to break out the snow suits & silly goggles & hats, let’s turn our attention to today’s event.
It seems nobody here is making the trip to this one although I’m pretty sure mrslament is going, so we hope you have a smashing time June
& to get in the mood, I hope you all heave a jar of teriyaki into whatever you’re stir frying or have gone to the effort of rustling up some tempura all of which is best paired with a few ice cold cans of Asahi Super Dry.
And, don’t forget. There is a live youtube stream for this one, so get comfy. Start times are all here.
Bit spoilt for choice on the colours front what with the poster using yellow, red, blue, pink, white & even a bit of purple
