Not a village, but a parish, Algés is just under two square kilometres in size (that about 0.8 square miles in old money).
Luckily it’s in the municipality of Oeiras which in the Lisbon metropolitan area, so that helps with the brief history… a bit.
Oeiras (not to be confused with the popular cream filled chocolate biccies ) is an important economic hub which emerged from an ancient agricultural settlement … & in no way at all a delicious sweet snack for dunking in tea & milk.
Being part of Lisbon, we’re a bit spoilt for choice on famous names what with a bunch of kings with wacky hats & miserable bus drivers but by far the most famous person from Lisbon has to be Col. Felix Cortez from Clear & Present Danger which was completely robbed by Speed at the 1994 oscars for best sound & best sound editing. A travesty that still hurts to this day. Bloke down the pub was inconsolable I can tell you.
But after a few days of wallowing & dunking quality chocolate biscuits in milk, Lisbonites got to their feet & continued to hang laundry out of their 4th floor windows as they put the whole sorry scandal behind them.
& so on to roll call time as chatts99 , faith , fiveswinglive , olivier , Gita & altor (&, at a guess fbxymox & smitha as they are locals) will head to the venue which is a stone’s throw From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea having had their fill of carne de porco alentejana & the obligatory Super Bock. So let’s wish them the best time ever (you just know they’ll get The Blood don’t you?)
And for colours, the festival has a rather nice teal & pink thing going & I don’t think we’ve ever done that combo, so here goes…
