Staggeringly good. I watched this with Hungarian subtitles & felt so lost during the scenes at the deaf dinner & when he started deaf school even though I could hear all the sounds but there was no spoken dialogue. Then, suddenly, after he actually learned to sign, the subtitles kicked in & the penny dropped. That was pretty much how Ruben felt. Utterly brilliant
I've been trying to watch this but am experiencing technical difficulties. Going to try again a bit later.

Top tip. & I know this sounds a bit self-defeating. Try to watch it with subtitles. You won't need them to understand the dialogue, but it really drove a key point of Ruben's situation home.

Thanks for the tip about the subtitles steve. Really added to it. Excellent film & totally worthy of the Oscar buzz!
Very sad and heart-wrenching. As for a TV production surprisingly good, not overdramatic, not too sentimental. Minimalistic, with toned-down cinematography which makes it even more heartbreaking.
But I don't see And I don't feel But tightly hold up silently My hands before my fading eyes And in my eyes Your smile
I mistook stars reflected in a pond at night for those in the sky.
Firstly I had a bit mixed feelings, although after having watched lately a couple of other films related to the history of England this one seems definitely outstanding.

Strange little film. Kind of like Vast of Night, in that it felt like a drawn out Twilight Zone episode. I didn’t think it was as successful as Vast of Night in what it tries to pull off, but interesting.

I fell asleep trying to watch it. Usually I'm a sucker for this sort of thing.
