A new album is still just a "promise"... if he's not happy with it it won't get released, just like Reflections etc. It's not set in stone is what I'm saying. Is it?
I think it's more than a promise now after Robert has spent the last year of interviews talking about this new album and it's been reported all over the press. He'd look a fool if nothing came out. If he was talking about starting a new album then there would be a chance it wouldn't happen at all. But as it sounds like it is around 95% finished just missing a few vocals then it would make no sense to abandon it, unless it was rubbish! And as Roger has been raving about how amazing and epic it sounds, it certainly sounds like it's top quality.
Yes the band are under extra pressure to release a killer album after the poor response to the last 2 but I'm positive they can do this and a new album will be released, probably next year rather than this one.
So yes, a new album is set in stone, apart from a release date.

I agree with violaine . Plenty of people get left at the altar. Nothing is set in stone until it happens.
It sometimes seems like people come across like artists "owe" something to those who like their work. If I were in the position of an artist whom people hounded with, "Serve your creativity to us, already!", I would be tempted to hold a project out of spite. It's one thing to say, "I'm really looking forward to xxx's new <blank>. I can hardly wait!" It's another to come off as complaining about it.
The album will come out when and if it comes out.

This is a much stronger lineup and they are playing far better than they were on the Dream Tour
Whether it's a stronger line up now is debatable. Both guitarists are amazing, Reeves is brilliant technically but, for me, Perry is the number 1 cure guitarist because his playing most suits the cure's music. Setlist wise, you can't compare it. The Dream Tour was their last tour as a totally creative band. Most of Bloodflowers was played each night and the rest of the set was aimed towards hardcore curefans with album cuts rather than singles. Nowadays the setlist is of a nostalgia band living off past glories.
Guitarists aside. A live band is only good if the drummer is solid. Jason has become amazing. I never cared for him, but all these years of playing and practicing has turned him into a powerhouse drummer. That is indisputable
I remember Robert saying they were going to release soundboard recordings of every show. Pearl Jam had previously done that for their entire tour and was h huge success with their hardcore fanbass, which may have inspired Robert to do the same. Sadly, even though I hate Pearl Jam. They certainly know how to please their fans. Robert is such a tease.
I think the Cure redeemed themselves for live streaming the majority of this year's summer festivals. Which was incredibly cool of them. This is a much stronger lineup and they are playing far better than they were on the Dream Tour.
I hope they live stream future shows, hopefully with the tour for their upcoming album or albums. Robert said they could release three albums? I have a feeling he is having a laugh😡
exactly ! I am not especially a Pearl Jam fan but it was a great idea to release every show ! It doesn't cost anything today to release it online (almost unmixed or mastered) and we would be all delighted... As i said, Robert is a musical genius, but not a marketing expert ;-)
If they could also release/sell the old shirts, goodies they were selling in the past, that would be fantastic. They would sell everything on line very quickly. Easy work to do for a merchandising company...but it won't happen i guess

I'm not sure about your definition of wishes/talks/promises... Plenty of things he's 'wished' to do, 'talked' about, but never really 'promised' anything. I don't remember an interview with him saying "i promise". Several projects have been talked about in itws and on the official site, can't they be seen as 'promises'?
One that has been talked about quite much for a while I see the mixed up kind of album remixed by Smth favourite bands isn't on the list, Mogwai was supposed to work on the track faith, and the few missing extended remixes from cd2 (lovecats, inbetween days, primary...) were supposed to be available as downloads.
well, i think i haver reached that age where i am letting it al go. I think when one gets older priorities change, no matter what. so instead of waiting for a new release or a new album, i'd rather take the time for thanking The Cure for being a part of my life for so long. It was a pleasant experience to say the least.
