'Songs of a lost world' is supposed to be released on 22nd April 2023 (Record Store Day) as a special Picture Disc double LP.
Regular editions planned to release a week later, 28th April.
That'd be a tragedy. Pandering to the picture disc community rather than the fan community for rip off store day would be quite a kick in the teeth after waiting this long.
I'm part of both communities (though only for TC). But rip off is a good description indeed ;-)

I get you but : ) I mean the hype has to come first doesn't it - that's what hype is -and lovers of art can wait a week. Fallers for hype need hype. And business needs fallers for hype rather than lovers of art. I dunno Personally - I'll buy the black vinyl when it's released even though I keep saying modern vinyl is bad and I'm going to CDs - I never do - Sure I'll get the black vinyl when it's released and I guess I won't play it for six months or so - just to make space for a bit of quietitude - just to make it a listening experience of 'time for that one' rather than the hurry of having to hear the new record. That bit always gets in my way of hearing a piece of work - But if there is a picture disc record store day kick in the teeth on it's way it's just business - just hype - pretty normal behaviour for a corporate arena rock band no? It's got to be acceptable for corporate monsters to behave badly no? But I do get your sentiment I really do.

Don't you think the hype is already there though? Every time a The Cure person mutters anything on social media there is a deluge of "Where's the album?" responses largely spurred on by various members having dangled carrots in front of music journo's who, in turn, have been quoted & paraphrased by numerous blogging hacks. So, the hype is well & truly in play I think. There's absolutely no question that this is going to sell regardless of format, but I can't believe that The Cure would effectively prevent those who would prefer a 21st century (or even 20th century) format to a hipster driven fad from buying the album on release day. They even held back the CDs for the recent Wish remaster because the big plastic discs got delayed so everything could be unleashed at the same time. Thus not leaving anybody out. & yes, I got upset at having to wait just because people wanted their clicks & pops, but at least we all got it at the same time. I personally think the rip off store day rumour is just a rumour as I don't think the band would stoop to that sort of level. The record company would for sure as it's no skin off their nose. But not the band.
