Which studios are they using, are they in Abbey Road again? If they are, is Andy Walter engineering again?
Where are they with their record deal, do they still have obligations or are they free agents?
This ^^^ After UMG shafted them with the last album, forcing Robert to hastily re-order the songs that would fit on one disc, is he going to let them push him around again?
Robert wanted the sound of 4:13 the way it is though. It is not like it was a kind of inability to deliver a better sound. As far as I remember he said he wanted the songs to sound more rough/raw and not so polished with a kind of live feeling. And didn´t they record it live with the whole group (not recording every single instrument/part alone as usual)? Of course you still don´t have to like it even when it was Roberts vision. Just wanted to say this.

I like the songs (except for THANWY which is dreadful) but it was & sounds like a rush job. It really shouldn't have been given the time they took to record it. The thing with The Cure albums is that Robert (& maybe the rest of the band) meticulously plans the running order of the tracks to suit a mood. He had that all ready to go with a double album & UMG pulled the rug so he had to compromise on what eventually came out. Don't forget the release was delayed 3 times. What was released sounded like 2 different albums had been mastered separately, the tracks got shuffled like a deck of cards & the first 13 were picked. Maybe why it sounds so all over the place. I don't recall he wanted it to sound "rough" although he was a fan of the Ross Robinson experiment where they recorded as a band. Putting myself in his nurocks (ugh) I would really want to make sure the next output would not suffer in the same way. He knows it didn't go down too well which is why they don't play many of those songs live anymore (even though live they are really very good (except THANWY)). But saying that, You're right. Robert's vision isn't always everyone else's vision. He knows that too I think, but I don't think he really cares. He has nothing to prove anymore. We know he can be a genius & we know he can be pretty bad. We'll still listen & will be passionate about it whether we like it or not. I can't say that WMS stopped me thinking they are one of the bast bands ever to exist & nor should I. The bad times can't make the good ones vanish for me & I'm sure for many of us

Without a contractual obligation to hand over product there's nothing to stop him tinkering forever without anything ever seeing the light of day...

They did an four-week recording session in a studio in Wales called Rockfield, that has become well known, because it’s where Queen did “Bohemian Rhapsody” . According to Robert they booked another 10 days later to do some more songs. And we know, that Robert finished some of the singing he thought was not good enough in his Home Studio.
