Do they really need to make a boatload of cash from festivals to do a real tour? Bob is a multi multi millionaire with more money that you could ever spend.
We all know he or they doesn´t need more easy cash, but seems the All Mighty Mr Money wins.
:S
There Was Nothing in the World that I Ever Wanted More than to Feel You Deep in My Heart...
Many of you has said pretty much of my feelings about an another festival year.
No sign of the new work, no new songs, just playing crowd-pleasers and easy money.
I would like a tour promoting a new record mixed with TIB & Disintegration anniversary shows.
Time keeps running and it´ll never return.
At the end, it´s good to have them on road but for sure Robert can make better choices about the band.
Unfortunately it's been the same for the last 10 years, each year doing the odd festival show and regular gig with nothing happening creatively. Sad to admit my favourite band have become one of those dinosaur bands reliving past glories.
Exactly. I look at it this way. If they make a boatload of money from the festivals then they have some scratch to take a chance on another proper Cure tour. It all works out in the end.

Touring is crazy expensive now - name bands have cancelled tours with already sold out dates this year because it just isn't financially viable. There are fewer bands crossing the Atlantic in either direction, cheaper to stay in their home market.
The Cure have always mixed festivals and tours, ever since the 70s..

Good moments during this 10-years time lap but the constant has been the low risk.
They doesn´t have to prove anything. They should be more creative than ever.
Instead this is what we get.

A little grumpy birdie wanted me to remind folks here that if you are interested in Glastonbury in any way, you need to sign up on their website asap. Otherwise it's impossible to get tickets, apparently.
Although I think it's highly unlikely that Glastonbury will be on that list of festivals (pretty sure he was kidding about that in that interview...). And yeah, I think you're right mralphabet, they would def need to be a headliner to take on any festival. Then again, why would anyone even consider them as a supporting act?!?
Hence the "we will be HEADLINING 20 festivals ..." tweet. That seems to be the most important part to Robert. No headlining no playing. When they couldn't get the headline spot above macca for live 8 London, they changed to Paris so they could headline. Not sure why they thought that open/100 years/end wouldn't be bigger crowdpleaser smash hits sing a long than hey Jude!
Been the same way since werchter 1981 when he didn't seem too pleased to be playing support to a certain Robert palmer😉

I thought touring is where bands make the serious money these days with not much made from album sales.
Ticket prices are certainly very high and suggest this is where the bands are making lots of money. And festivals where a Glastonbury headliner pockets at least a million.

I think merch sales are their best earner, promoters and venues are creaming off the top of everything though. Travel and accomodation have gone through the roof, lots of bands pass that on in ticket prices but The Cure seem to be resisting that to a degree.
It's more likely that the spanish date will be MadCool.
Even after the clusterf*ck they "organised" this summer?
It was way worse in 2017, believe me... Maybe Doctor Music, who are returning to the game next year, although I think they'll go for a more commercial name. Coldplay probably. Who knowd, but I don't think it's gonna be Primavera Sound.

I would imagine have that extra cash as padding gives you some more leverage in terms of arranging a tour. Dunno. And I while I doubt any of the members of TC are cash strapped and eating ramen, what's not to love about making some more scratch to do with as you please?
If RS and co. didn't enjoy some aspect of doing festivals, clearly they wouldn't be playing them. I'm sure it's not first and foremost about the $. Wonder what's enjoyable for them about it? Hmmm, they don't have to stand around in the mud, the heat, and use portable toilets.
And as for RS having more money than any of us could ever spend, try me.
Been lurking for a while so thought should get around to posting!
Glasto would be interesting. They haven't had a decent headliner for 18 years (except Flo who only stood in the Food Fighters). I read that Bestival is in financial trouble, so that prolly won't even happen next year
Very disappointing for both Glastonbury and the band if they go back again. 86 great. 90 good. 95 blah.
Does Glastonbury have an exclusivity clause?
I'm pretty sure that I have never heard of any bands having exclusivity clause at Glastonbury- yes you get bands that only play there over festival season but think that's their choice.
As bands generally get paid less for playing at Glastonbury due to the money going to good causes I wouldnt have thought they'd wantto be tied to a gig that doesn't pay as much.
