July 7th Hyde Park London Live Report

Anyone else cheering at the nutjob Londoners singing the keyboard line to Play for Today? Robert seemed delighted.

from afar: sure is a lot of whining from people who were lucky enough to go. it was pretty obvious from the start that this show was going to be a celebration of the band. with the festival setting, restricted set length & hordes of support bands this was always going to be an Isle of Wight type show. i thought the set had a decent amount of variety & the pacing was good. & the band sounded like they were into it & played excellent. between the 2 shows, there were a lot of songs played. only a third was repeated between the meltdown show & this one. how many other bands that have been around that long would care enough to rehearse that many songs? not many & some of them shall not be named (hippies!). the tape sounds great. while i generally prefer the meltdown set, i do enjoy the poppier hits too. to name one, just like heaven is a fantastic song. still puts most of what is currently considered pop to shame. as long as robert is happy, we should be too. it bodes well for more activity in the near future.

I don’t see it as ‘whining’ - it’s just expressing opinions. If everyone on here bowed continually to their genius, it’d be pretty dull reading.

Although yes, it was a festival, it was also flagged as 40th anniversary, and I think that’s why I expected it to be more representative of TC’s body of work, rather than a singles-fest. And I don’t think anyone has said they didn’t enjoy the show - just that their preference would be different in places (similarly to Meltdown in terms of ‘special guests’, Faith etc).

Just opinions.

Oh, and Just Like Heaven's one of my favourite songs in the world, for what it's worth.

I think they only have Play for today on the set list, just to hear the crowd sing! Hahaha

And what a singing it was... BTW, thank you ninja for having you at my side and singing along as the most hardcore Cure fans ever.
