Please don't judge me too harshly, but I have to confess that although I love most of Three Imaginary Boys through to Wish, I've not made the same effort to get to know the last four albums. I'm not proud of it.
I think it was down to a combination of a slightly disappointing live performance after two fabulous ones, not 'bonding' immediately with Wild Mood Swings, and a horrible job I had then which took up my waking hours/listening time for a few years.
Would be great to hear your thoughts on what masterpieces I've missed. I'm not sure where to start in catching up...any recommendations gratefully received.

Hi, I don't think too many people would say that you've missed out on a bunch of masterpieces. I would have a go at Bloodflowers and see how you like it, the tour with that album in particular was close to former glories in my opinion. There surely some gems to be found from the three other ones however, counting b-sides and bonus tracks and whatnot… enjoy!
Me too...But that's because there was something about Wish that just didn't work for me for a long time. I just wanted that album to be an instrumental and so I kind of walked away from them for a while after that. I got into Wild Mood Swings a few years ago cos it's a real train wreck of an album, you can feel the hair being torn out as they run out of ego. It's like a colour by numbers 'Kiss me' you know? just the formula of angsty song followed by pop song followed by crashing song followed by melancholia etc. And it really doesn't work unless you pull it apart and put it back together again. Every song is a b side and what a great home tape compilation that album would have been if they'd never released it as a complete work. Its just the whole contradiction of The Cure again, whenever you think that they might be something they turn it on it's head. I love that record. What else have you missed...Paris...now there's a good record. I'm no fan of double albums that are only around 12 minutes per side...there's something wrong with that. I've got it on cassette...it works on tape...no good on record really. Just sat down and you gotta turn it over again...nah! As above...Bloodflowers..especially camping in the rain and Bloodflowers. There's something about the drama of the rain and that album. And of course 4:13 Dream...'Underneath The Stars' alone is worth the admission fee.

Nobody here will judge you, and if they do that's their problem. There are definitely opinions to be had, and I feel similarly to you, although I've really grown to love Bloodflowers as well as a few tracks from WMS, in the last 2-3 years.
I can't stand, and don't think I ever will, the self titled album or 4:13. I've seen tours for each of the four albums you mentioned, and I probably least enjoyed the shows for those two albums, as well, so it all adds up for me.
I do appreciate that band for "trying new things" and not stagnating, so in that regard I give up respect even for the albums for which I don't care. They could have just chosen somewhere along the line to be formulaic in their releases, but I don't feel they have at all.
I'll put in a third vote for giving Bloodflowers a listen. If you can view the Berlin live version from Trilogy, all the better. Save
Bloodflowers is ageing well. It doesn't matter how I approach WMS or self-titled I can't get into them. There's a good album somewhere in 4.13 but it's been smothered in the mix/mastering. I'm positive the current line up could produce something spectacular if they wished (pun intended!)
Thanks very much for the replies...all really helpful. You've reminded me that I did at least make it to '93 as I do have Paris!
Right - I'll take your advice and go for Bloodflowers first (will seek out the version @notkristie kindly mentions if possible), followed by Wild Mood Swings (intrigued again by that one, given the comments), and see how I get on. Cheers, all.
Funny how 92/93 seemed to be a lull for some others on here too - I don't feel like such a part-timer now

OK, screwjack, can you please humor me and tell me how it's growing on you? What are you finding to appreciate that particular album? Save
