Pretty damn sick of hearing about the anniversary of Dr Pooper's Lousey Farts Club Band. Seriously, it's utter cr@p. So bad, in fact, that some doofus decided to try to make a stereo version of....cr@p. To quote a late friend of mine. "Ye cannae polish a jobbie"
Have you actually listened the new stereo mix or are you just spewing with no basis in facts? Giles Martin has done an amazing piece of work with it. The previous stereo version was a toss off in the age of mono & that carried through to the cd age. It sounds like an entirely different record now. There are amazing guitar parts that I have never heard before to name one aspect. Also, did you know that "doofus" previously worked with Kate Bush? Did you hate that , too? It's fine to not like a band but every work is its own entity. Like I don't care for Depechey Mode but I at least gave it a listen. It will be the only one but at least gave it a shot. & I really dislike the Hateful Fred (Grateful Dead) but I have heard most of their work. I even saw them once. Dare you to put on the new mix of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds with headphones. It might change your opinion some. The things they were doing in the dark ages of recording are stunning & changed the face of pop/rock music. I dare say even the Cure was influenced by this, especially when they expanded their sound after Pornography.

You are wasting your time here, Chuck.
I know. Apologies, was spouting off under the influence of pain meds. We talked about Sgt Pepper & while not my favorite Beatles record, I like it more with the new mix. Especially George's guitar! The mono mix is cool, too. The new mix of Lucy is blowing me away. Love that song!

Yes. They have been playing that tripe on the radio practically all day. As for working with Kate Bush, don't forget that Dave Allen also worked with Neneh Cherry & I'm not exactly rushing out to buy that dog's egg.

Not my fav either. But it has 'A Day In The Life' wich makes this record better than 90% of any other record ever released.

The new mix of Day in the Life is pretty stupendous. Hard to believe they did that on 4 track! I also love the vocal harmonies on She's Leaving Home. Beautiful. & I can actually listen to Within You, Without You now. Maybe I've become more open to Indian music as I've got older. The drone thing opened a lot of doors.

You still listen to radio? haha. I hardly ever do that. I find that the worthy stuff gets to me without that drastic step. I have more music on hard drive than I'll ever be able to listen to before I die, so I concentrate on that. I had Sirius for a few months for free but didn't find it worth paying for. Latest car plays music off USB, making the radio even more redundant.

Well, they did not do it on 4 tracks. They used much more tracks, but, after recording drums and bass, for example, they premixed it in one track (in Spain, we call that techniquee ping-poing) because they had only four final tracks for mixing. But they always used a lot of tracks before blending them. I've been told that Martin found the original tracks isolated in old tapes (they kept everything, apparently), so he has been able to mix the record with all the individual tracks with no premixes. That's why it sounds so good. He had room to work with every single element recorded alone.

Yeah, I knew about that. There were still some amazing things being done on that record given the state of the technology at the time. Definitely ground breaking.
Anyway, you forgot to move your original post that triggered the derail of the 'How do you feel' thread.
It's everyone's forum & everyone has their own taste I considered moving the original post, but the thread wouldn't have made much sense & in any case, it was how I was feeling at the time
