While Smith most often attributes "Lullaby" to childhood nightmares, fans have speculated that it's actually a metaphor for everything from depression to addiction and abuse. The latter interpretation was further fueled by a portion of an MTV interview where Smith talks about the song. "One particular night, my uncle burst through the window, and he did unspeakable things," said Smith, before adding with a laugh, "He didn't really."
This is the most poignant song accounting the horrors of child abuse that i have ever heard - while others such as suzanne vega, Wayne Hussey and Lemmy have hammerfisted very clumsy bludgeounous thickoistic reports on the subject here we have robert smith and his sly poetic genius writing the feeling, the emotional content of child abuse where others have only reported the factual. Amazing song.

Yep. There is s sinister underlying feel there. Hussey could never even get close to the subtlety though. Even Lemmy could be more subtle lyrically
Yup, Lem could not claim to be more subtle than many writers but Hussey is a hammerfist...ah while I'm here steve i gotta say i really do like the latest Mish LP - some great writing - Waynes so much better at melody than lyric but on this one he's let go loads and you can feel it - its a good record. I'm pleased for him...as for Lemmy's latest 'aftershock' - best Motorhead record in years and years...funny thing is he sounds like shane macgowan with those false teeth - I somehow really like the sound of false teeth in old capricorns.
This was the song I used to advise to people that didn´t know The Cure yet--until I cam across somebody with spider phobia himself... He ended up thinking Robert Smith was a maniac... Nah, I guess he is, that´s why we love him... He´s so NORMAL, ans what I consider normal is usually to be considered weird by all others I know!
