I have always counted the seconds he holds rain and have always been amazed at how strong his voice is! Between those and the agains! An amazing voice, an amazing person!

This song is always one of my favorites lately. Although most of the time I've been hearing the live versions. This last week I've been really digging back into Disintegration (the deluxe re-issue, the rarities disc, Entreat, the D-set from Trilogy) and am amazed at how this song has held up and evolved over time.
Ohhh I love this live. Especially when they start it off with the "growling" guitar! And 1996 Vancouver still my favorite! Really long raaaaaaaiiiinnnn
Why is it every time they put this at the very beginning of a show, it turns into a special show setlist-wise ? Always wondered..must be the band's self confidence, as I think it doesn't sound too tricky musicianship-wise, control over emotions is the main part here in my opinion.
A great visceral song... One which every human being can relate, that writhing state, and the complete release of emotions, to calmness.
The Entreat version is simply stunning.
Does anyone know/think/ what it meant to Robert at the time of writing? Any ideas/interpretations to why the main guitar riff had appeared first in All Mine, then Sadacic? Thoughts on why the bass line changed/evolved on the Swing Tour?

I think he was generally fed up by 89. It's widely reported that he didn't intend the band to get as big as they had got & even the Mansfield US show was rumoured to be their last. The lyrics hint at maybe just how much the band thing had taken over his life & it was all getting on top of him. I even sometimes think that the "prayers for rain" is a reference to die hard The Cure fans egging him on to write more gloomy material
