"We are delighted to announce 'The Cure – Standing Still' for publication in 2017.
For the last 18 months we have been working closely with celebrated music photographer Paul Cox, sorting through and carefully scanning his incredible photographic archive. From 1981 to 2009, Paul worked with Robert Smith and the band on a diverse range of shoots including privately assigned projects, sessions for press use, and promotional sessions for new releases. Paul attended and covered video shoots and a great many private projects, the results of which show him to be an almost official photographer to The Cure. The vast majority of these images have never been published – so this sanctioned and approved limited edition photographic biography, containing over 250 photos from 35 photo sessions will be a unique and important record of such an iconic and timeless band.
We will announce further details for 'The Cure – Standing Still' early in 2017. Please join our Facebook community to keep up to date with news."

I'm tired of picture books for one specific reason. Alongside photos that everyone has already seen they are packed full of promo photos that were originally considered "not good enough" & now, suddenly they are.
....or pictures that there just wasnt space to use at the time? I'm sure Tom Sheehan, Kevin Cummins, Anton Corbijn etc. all shot loads of stuff at each session but there was only really ever space for one pic in the weeklies, maybe a couple in the monthlys.

So why cash in now & not 20 or 30 years ago? 3 photo books now with nothing particularly special about any of them unless you shelled out a packet for a super duper signed edition in a semi lethal box with a bonus unused print or two. I don't get it.
Dunno! Copyright reverting back to them maybe? Or just a pension top up? Its not just the Cure, there's been a spate of books and exhibitions of 80s new wave types during the last few years..
Theres going to a Shirtload of Bowie/Prince/Lemmy cut and paste books next year, at least the qualty of the ones we've got has been fairly good - even if a few more words to go with pictures would make a nice change!
I made myself a 2017 desktop calendar using cure lyrics and pictures for just over $5.00 at Walgreens... I don't need a picture book for $70 - $150 This is why I prefer Lol's book - it tells a story.
I'm tired of looking at pictures* - can we have a book of all of the transcribed interviews and conversations from the last few years instead?
Thoughts?
*disclaimer - I could really never be tired of looking at pictures of Robert....
I like pictures of Robert too...and being one of those that bought the fancy book, I will admit I probably won't be much inclined to look at it again for a long time. Maybe it's because, as Steve mentioned, they are mostly pics from shoots we are familiar with. Maybe it's not as compelling to see a lot of posed shots. Maybe I'm just a bit more of a reader than a looker I dunno, but I agree...picture books are not as interesting.
For whatever reason, The Cure doesn't seem to have much official merch (well, besides the zillions of tour stuff). I also love reading past interviews, but the only merch I really want is music. DVDs or audio recordings of live performances, whatever. Music please!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. So much. Music is what we really crave & not photos that were shelved in favour of other photos.

I agree with both of you!
I want merch - not really tour merch though... I don't need concert t's. I bought the pack of buttons and they broke... I do regret not getting a concert t though... I just can never find one I like. I like the plain ones...
Interviews, stories, favorite things, new albums .... that is what I want.
At least the last book had proper photos, admittedly nothing we haven't seen before - and it was £70!! Andy Vella's book could have had photos of lookalikes, they were all silhouettes!

I shan't buy this one and I didn't buy the Sheehan one either, whilst I'm sure its a lovely thing, at that price no thanks. I bought myself another gig ticket instead with the money I saved and the memories I got from that far outweigh a few glossy pics thank you very much
I think you are mixing things up here. This is not Cure merchan, this is not even about the band. This is the work of a photographer. That happens to have thousand of Cure pics and he wanted to do a good book about part of his work. So, is not really about The Cure, is about Tom Sheenan's point of view of The Cure. Is about him and his view of a band. And is perfectly legit.
As a lover of both photography and The Cure, I will always welcome a careful, well printed, well published and crafted photography book. And this one certainly is.
I love books. I love photography. I love photography books regarding any topic that may interest me. So, in this case, is a win win for me.
You don't like it? Don't buy it. But I don't understand the criticism.
Lol's book (or any other about "words and stories") and this one are perfectly compatible.

He wanted to do a good book that made him lots of money, let's get that right. People want to buy it, then that's fine, but this has all become a bit of a bandwagon from the Vella book.
So yes, that's legit if you like but so is the opposite point of view.
