Okay, I'm glad to hear the first tracks off the North American tour from New Orleans. The lineup sounds great. So I thought I would start a thread giving some details on what I plan.
My location for both Miami shows is on the grass ($25 tickets each), so don't expect soundboards.
Assuming security allows it, I plan to bring my 2013 Sony Cybershot camera and record in high resolution ts format. Last year I taped Taylor Swift in Tampa (for my wife -ahem-) and I mostly recorded two teenage brats behind us singing every single song completely out of tune. The video looks great, however.
As a backup, I cannot bring my Sony digital WAV audio recorder, the $99 device was stolen from my seamail shipment upon my return from Australia. Good thing I carried my camera on the flight. So I will be bringing as a backup recorded my old Sony 192 kbs recorder. Yes, the one that I recorded the 2008 Cure show in Tampa. It's just a backup, but at least we'll have something if the camera fails.
The camera has superior stereo recording, I may simply not care about the video as we are in the grass outside the amphitheatre. The audio is what matters to me, I'm sure someone in the front row will give you good footage of the band. I want something I can play in my car, so I trust the audio on the Cybershot. It does a decent job of filtering out local noise (unless at a Taylor Swift stadium show).
So, that's the plan. Wish me luck and good charges on my three camera batteries.
Hi everyone! I've only just recently joined so bare with me. In a few weeks from now I will seeing The Cure for my first ever time and I'm hoping to record the full show as I am starting to get into recording gigs I attend as it's a good thing for memories sake but also for the enjoyment of listening to the actual performance. I will be sitting in the seating area so I won't be in the general standing area and I would like some advice/tips on how I could get the best recording possible. I'm more than happy to share my recording with everyone after the gig as well if anyone is interested. Thankyou
As I'm really new to recording concerts I haven't yet invested in proper recording equipment but I'm looking into getting a Tascam audio recorder as I've seen a number of good reviews on them. For the time being I've only used my iPod classic (I know it sounds lame) but I've gotten some very nice recordings of bands at festivals with it that sound really good. No distortion and the vocals mix with the music nicely. Would you have any good recommendations on equipment for indoor concerts?

pillowman can help suggesting equipment and advise how to tape.
i highly suggest to buy some good microphones too instead of taping with the internal mics
I'm thinking of getting a Sony EMC microphone, a lot of the bootlegs I have collected of various bands that have been recorded on the past 15+ years or so have been recorded with them
I didn't know you can record with an Ipod Classic...? How?
Talk to Pillowman as suggested, but i favor the Sony PCM-M10 deck as well as external mics. I would not bother with the Sony ECM as the audio quality is not great and there are much better solutions. You can get much more advise if you join the forum at
Im sure everyone has heard what great recordings can be made with the AT831 mics and there is a used set with the 4.7k Darktrain mod for sale on taperssection.com in the Yard Sale section. You have to be a member to see that sub board, stop using internals and make great tapes.
