Recording concerts. Okay or not cricket?

I don't think it takes a lot of income from the artist because someone who wants to go to a concert will go anyway, someone who don't want to go just won't. People who don't go to a concert thinking they'll just buy a bootleg afterwards must not be numerous. And good for them, that leaves more tickets to real fans who go support the bands they like.

Personnaly I first listen my firsts few Cure boots after I saw my first Cure concert, and i was so frustrated to hear all that i had missed it made me even more willing to go to more future gigs.
I like going to a concert and get a bootleg when possible, even though sometimes it's different from my souvenir, i like to be able to re-listen to all the songs and remember the images in my head.

Personnaly I enjoy a site that i'm not allowed to cite here where i can listen to plenty of concerts that I haven't been able to to attend, thanks to it i'm really glad to be able to do so.
I understand that someone who records the concert and allow other people to listen to it may be rewarded some way. money? Why not. I don't have a precise answer on that. Everything has a price, i understand, so i guess...

On the other hand, and that has nothing to do with the fact that I'm crap with computers, I find it completly non-understandable that the one who recorded a show in 'lossless wav 1000gigabit mhz super-mega tec something' "forbids" everyone to share it at mp3 quality. Not to mention they don't have any rights about the song in the first place, they shouldn't be recording it, remember, and although i thank whoever do a record when i'm allowed to listen to it, i think they are wrong to claim such a right concerning this restriction about the quality.
I don't understand this restriction? Why not spread high-quality recording to the restricted club of select people who own and have the capabilities tu use state-of-the-art recording equipement as you want, butalso to allow a parallel spread as simple mp3 quality for those like me who don't have the computer skills. It would solve the problem. Wav // mp3. Simple.
I must say I have poor hears too i suppose, i don't hear any difference between old cds and remasters or mp3.

If a bootleger do it, why not a band take this problem at the source. Some bands release all their concerts i think to remember (the pixies i believe), that is such a good idea, that would easily solve the problem. Knowing all a band involves, releasing a concert is so simple to do these days, It can be really a low price, so maybe it's about time they start to think about this. And we would benefit from a proper sound too.
If I had a band, I'd record and release everything. Frankly nowadays it's so easy to release a concert, why not just doing it yourself? that's simple for small too, via interenet or cd-rom.
If The Cure had a recorded and sold bootlegs themeselves, I would have bought them, and would have made them earn money instead of bootlegers.

I don't think the question of copyright about cover songs or past members is a problem, it's a simple question of comptability really.
Then if people still want to get a free boot link to a site instead of buying a recording from the official source, that really a problem of personnalities. It's those people who are wrong.

On a side not, for example, i'm talking on official videos here, companies go over youtube and close down accounts who show videos official videos, presumably because they don't earn the copyrights they should. But hell, if these youtubers weren't there to show us those videos, I would have never seen these Shelleyan Orphan, Pale Saints, Charlottes, Sundays, MBV etc videos, they are not available or shown anywhere! Even if i wanted to pay let's say £1 for a video like you can buy a mp3 online, it's not possible because companies don't take care of their complete back catalogue as they won't make much money out of it anyway, but here, thank god to the bootleger!

A simple CD is not supposed to be pass along to another person. 'Everybody' does it. I some friend had not lend me a cd sometimes, i wouldn't have discover some bands.

I mean, all in all, i don't think a bootleg harms a band much.

My vote, as a conclusion but the option is not there, would be: Bands should do it by themselves.
