I remember when I found out that Roger and Perry left and I immediately emailed Roger on his site and he wrote me back. I asked him what happened and I don't remember what he said, but he was pretty ruthless towards Robert. It actually made me really sad for both sides. We emailed a bit and I really wish I remembered what email address it was or if I even still had access to it.. When we did email, he was really nice and responded to me quickly. He answered my questions and I wished him luck in the future. I felt bad that I was taking his time away from other things, so I stopped writing him. When I found out he was back in the band, I wrote him again telling him I was happy he was back and I didn't hear back.
I really think Roger and I would have a great time talking...we are both Scorpios...his personality makes total sense to me.
I also find it really funny that this interview was published to a Morrissey board...
Has Robert said anything about it? Lol says he hasn't heard from him but if he didn't like it he would have heard that. I know there was that quip in Denmark(?) when he was talking about the walk(?) and said "you can read it in my book... you can read it in Simon's book" - but was that a remark on Lol? Or is there something else?
I know Roger has said something....we all know Roger has said something.....
I very much enjoyed the back story of learning about how they formed, what happened, immediately googling the top of the pops performance to see Robert's bandage thumb... I laughed at the part some guy called him Tollhouse. I cringed when he climbed into that girl's bathroom... I felt like I was with him.. At the same time, it felt like he was saying "please, please Robert, please let me in the band again..." He never said it. He hasn't said it. He may or may not say it. He may or may not want it... I just felt it was....curious.
Buy the book.... I've bought 4 already!
Part of dealing with addiction is being able to let go of the past. Past hurts done to you and what you've done to others. I think it was in the other book about The Cure that Tolhurst said something about his contribution to the band, and how that was underplayed by Smith but that he had to let any unfairness in that department go for his own sanity. I'm sure nobody in the band was an angel, but what good would slinging dirt around do now? The lack of bitching in Cured was the main thing that endeared me to it.
Thanks for the interview link. The interview was mildly interesting and the rest of the thread was hilarious.
I finished Lol's book the other day after buying at Heathrow on the way home after the Wembley shows. I found it mildly amusing but not really a lot of detail about what went on and how he contributed to things. The stuff about the Reflections show in Sydney was cool, having been there but I didn't feel there was a lot of substance in the book at all.
I was interested to read that Lol said that Robert liked Literature. I had no idea that he did until now. I've been wondering if there is any mention anywhere of Roberts favourite books or authors? (I've just completed a Literature degree so this really excites me. Sad, I know ☺️) Is there a thread on here anywhere or does anyone know where I might find out more about Roberts love of books? ❤
