Noooooooooooooo even a "poor MP3" tape is better than no taping- & I mean no disrespect to anyone who has taped, & hopefully share an MP3 show.
Yes lossless tapes are better but if you can't afford a rig that costs a few hundreds, or choose to tape with a Sony like Pips or an iPhone the huzzah!! Another The Cure tape for us all!!!
If you have a lead on Brisbane 21 August 1992 - CT version, for the love of Bob, let me know. Please!
way too few tapers on this american leg, at least that being shared, it will be better when the band arrives in good old europe again, but it would be nice with a few american tapers as well

A few hundred for good quality recorders? Actually, no, this is not entirely true. Yes, new units like the Sony PCM M10 costs about $200, but some of the older ones like the Edirol R09 can be bought on ebay for as little as 50 dollars! Check out the ebay listings if you are serious into doing this.
Some people don't buy any mics and just use the internal microphones. In most cases, I think it works good enough. Years ago I used a Audio Technica shotgun mic I bought for roughly 40 dollars. It was an ATR 25. I used it with my DAT recorder. I think it worked great! In fact, I think you can still get one of those microphones for the same price now - if not lower.
Sometimes bringing more stuff in only means more worries about how to bring it all in. That's the unfortunate thing about taping now. It's not as simple as it use to be.
Want a more stealth solution? Look at what I wrote in one thread about how to tape with an iphone.

It's OK thanks, i've seen that post, and that topic.... I'm good with my rigs.
Whilst your posts there detail the types of mics to get for the iPhone, they do not go into the detail that the guide does on how to get the mic set up etc- looking at those mics they have no cable, they're for plugging directly into the bottom of the unit, that in itself presents some problems when positioning the unit. What do you suggest? Jacket or shirt pocket?
Don't get me wrong, you'd no doubt get a better capture with those mics but the point of that topic and the guide, is to help anyone tape a show without spending any extra money, or very little money on the app...
Anyway, I look forward to your tapes (where are you taping, by the way??), and you can look forward to mine!

Yamaha Pocketrack - the same POS that recorded those Hollywood Bowl shows is selling at buy it now for 60 dollars. Probably not even worth 25 cents after listening to those.

Those are mics (the Roland CS10EM) are ones that you simply wear in your ears. If you have a recorder like the Sony PCM M10, you can actually monitor what you hear while recording it (just simply connect the mic jack into the mic input and the earphone jack into the headphone output). The TASCAM device (ixj2) won't let you do this (listen while you record) on the old iPhone because the ixj2 blocks the headphone jack. And it is on topic because if one of you guys has an old iphone, you can simply buy a 50 dollar device and record from it. You don't really need the Roland mics. I used that as an example if you want to take advantage of the plug in power. You can use any microphone you have on an ixj2. You can find tons of deals on those on ebay. Just avoid the really cheap microphones - like the kind that use a circular battery. My first recording I ever made was done with one of those and it was bad - threw it away after I found a better version.
Oh yeah, and if you have the R0DE app with the Tascam, you can turn the device upside down and it will work that way - record from the top while in your jacket pocket or something.
While I know enough about taping, I'm not involved in recording this band on this tour. Tickets sold out where I am and were priced too high for my interest in the secondary market.
