See you, you used to stand with eyes so opened now Wonder how they've always seen your name See you, standing always in the open now See you, just me, just the same How he could have held you in his arms? Nowhere always sounds so good When you used to stand When you smile it's over now Still you put your trust in me Do you put your trust in me? There's nothing left but faith There's nothing left but faith With nothing left but faith There's nothing left but faith Your voice is sad and distant now There's nothing left but faith Your voice is old and distant now There's nothing left but faith There's nothing left but faith There's nothing left but faith There's nothing left but faith There's nothing left
I've been wondering what kind of state RS had to be in to write the lyric that is so hard to actually think about the meaning behind in this song because it's so horrific. You know, the one at the beginning of the second verse.
Yes, the meaning of the word rape can be more broad, but I'm not sure RS was going for the Yeats or Keats linguistic effect, here. The overall tone of the song is despair, but that particular sentiment is nothing short of brutal and goes beyond most of his other lyrics.
I've read death was very much at the forefront of the lives of members of TC at the time. That, coupled with being very young (that's man-child age) and lots of drugs and drink could probably lead to a lyric like that, I suppose. Still, it's pretty striking.
Amazingly, that nasty piece of lyric doesn't diminish the beauty of the song for me (at least not much).
To say that lyric is a bit "intense" would be an understatement. So, what was that all about?
Does anyone know which version of Faith - I think it is a 1989 one - where Robert talks about the ship called 'goodbye summer' in his introduction? I dreamt about my father last night (he died in 2015) and woke up with those words on my brain. I think this whole virus thing is f*cking with my head

Any idea on a country? Could narrow the search down a bit

Nope, just hoped it might ring a few bells. Maybe I dreamt this as well!
