Well I thought the first 2 episodes were pretty good but last night's was possibly the worst episode I've ever seen. The Doctor has added climate change activist to her SJW portfolio now. I'm okay with delivering messages but Doctor Who really doesn't seem to be the right platform for me. She should stick to saving the earth & other planets/ space things from weird monsters & stuff.
Exactly my thoughts. I found previous season very weak and finally I really liked these two new episodes. It reminded me of "old" doctors.
I get the impression they're going for a David Tennant/fun tone - bit of spirit and a cheeky wink can overtone most evils.

Ooooh, there's a DW thread... and even better, you guys seem to share my views!
Don't have much to add as I've only watched the first episode so far, but that in itself is kind of telling isn't it? Thought the first episode was a step up from last series, but it felt a bit too much of a 'look we listened to your criticisms and are trying to fix it' to be really good (and of course some script issues are still there in my opinion eg. too much tell and not enough show). So it's disappointing to hear that the improvement doesn't seem to last past the first story.
You might find it okay but the second episode got absolutely shredded in the press for a reason I never even considered. & that's what's wrong with both the show & the media. They are both really trying (too hard) to be "woke" & as a result they clash stupendously. Doctor Who should get rid of all the messaging it's delivering at the moment. The more it tries, the more the critics pick holes in it in the media & that's primarily because the Doctor currently really tries to jam that message down our throats like Annie Wilkes with the ice cream scoop on Ace Merrill in Castle Rock. We get it okay? Get on with saving people from robots, statues, lizards, Martians etc. & stop dicking about with the TARDIS too. It's starting to look like a soap opera night club in there.

Just finished Spyfall pt. 2... While in some ways it is still better than most of the episodes of last series, I can't say I truly enjoyed it either. I just struggle with Chibnall's writing a lot, it's too drawn out and... dull? functional? exposition-y? staged?
While I'm not against messaging in DW, I have to say I really dislike the anvilicious-ness Chibnall delivers it with. It, much like Chibnall's writing on a whole in my opinion, lacks subtlety and finesse.

Also, why is the Master still crazy? I thought that had been quite nicely tied up.

Still completely behind due to being really busy at the moment, so the time I've had to watch shows has gone to other shows. Finally got around to Orphan 55... and just what?!? Don't they do script editing anymore? (Or maybe Chibnall's editing is just bad). That episode was such a mess! The only thing it succeeded in was making me wish I was watching the episode Oxygen again instead...
Happy to hear that the next two episodes are better, even if it's just for those two.
