I actually think this season's writing is terrible. To have the episodes as mini short stories is ok, but the narrative arc between doesn't work because it's practically non existent. I like Jodie Whittaker, but her Doctor channels David Tennant in a way that makes the character seem ridiculous. Too much of the sonic screwdriver too.
It always feels like the writing lets it down, it's so formulaic and there has to he a better baddie than something walking slowly towards the Doctor + friends. Only one I kind of liked was the moths/tunnel one.
You liked the moths one? I thought that one pretty bad myself. I liked both the Tim Shaw ones & The Ghost Monument. I sort of liked Kerblam, but only because it was basically a snipe at Amazon & the ridiculous amount of packaging they use. But Jodie's Doc still hasn't fully formed in terms of her lines. She's being made to sound incredulous. Typical line for her would be, "I like *insert noun*. I think. Do I? Maybe. I'm not sure." That worked fine in the first episode in the run up to her remembering who she was after the regeneration. But it should have been knocked on the head right there.
Well I thought the first 2 episodes were pretty good but last night's was possibly the worst episode I've ever seen. The Doctor has added climate change activist to her SJW portfolio now. I'm okay with delivering messages but Doctor Who really doesn't seem to be the right platform for me. She should stick to saving the earth & other planets/ space things from weird monsters & stuff.
I quite often like the cast but the showrunning and writing is really letting it down.
It's quite spotty isn't it? One episode can be great & then the next a complete pile of dog's eggs. I still can't understand why Moffat got such a hard time. At least he had a host of good characters & decent monsters. I know the arcs got a bit drawn out, but it was proper Doctor Who. & I'm not bashing Whittaker either. I think she is a great choice for the part, but she (& by that I mean The Doctor) seems to have been turned into some sort of wittering fool by whoever's directing. It's distracting to the point that when she does get serious you can't really buy into it one bit.

Exactly my thoughts. I found previous season very weak and finally I really liked these two new episodes. It reminded me of "old" doctors.
